I have been looking for a deer rifle and I found a local listing for a Remington .270. It doesn't give any other info and they are asking $250 for it.

I am planning on calling about it tomorrow and was wondering if there were any Remington .270s I should stay away from? Also, what would be some things to look at when buying a used rifle? I don't know what kind it is (bolt, semi, pump, etc.) so any tips would be appreciated.

A lot of people (myself included) think that the 710/715/770 are overpriced for what you get. If it's one of those three specific model numbers - 710, 715, or 770, then I wouldn't give more than about $150 or $175 for it. If it's any kind of 700, 788, 600, or 673, then jump on it! :) (provided it's in good shape). Well, actually, I don't think the 600 or 673 were ever made in .270....

i would guess it is a 721, and the 721 is a fine rifle, and many times represent a true bargain in rifles.

I have a Remington 7600 in .270. Great deer rifle. Especially for a lefty like me. A 760 would also be a good rifle if you're interested in a pump-action.
