If so, I have a question. I wanted a Euromark and a Stainless Laminate Sporter, but I see that they are no longer listed on their web site. Have they been discontinued? Does anyone have any experience with these. Any thoughst on the Mk 5 in general.

I think that Weatherby may have failed to post a link to this page . Euromark (http://www.weatherby.com/rifles/mag_euromark.shtml)

As for the Mark 5s in general I like them for what they are. My primary white tail rifle is an Alaskan in 7MM Whby. It burns quite a bit more powder than a 280 Rem. to gain 300 fps but what the heck.

OFIC Art Eatman uses a Weatherby and speaks highly of it. He will check in soon, if I don't miss my guess.

FedDC, There is also a page at Weatherby's site on theSLS (http://www.weatherby.com/rifles/mag_sls.shtml)
Both of the pages I have mentioned are copyrighted by Weatherby in 2003 but not linked to their home webpage. Why not shoot them an email?

BTW, I really have some sort of affection for these rifles. The one I mentioned above was a replacement for a Fibermark in 7MM Whby that was stolen from deer camp mid season. That rifle was recovered 2 days prior to receiving the check from the insurance company. I was then the proud owner of two Weatherby 7MM mags. and could just barely afford to own one. Of course I had to send the check back to the insurance company. I cleaned and cleaned the gun that had been stolen and it has not been shot since. Later on I came upon a Mark V Deluxe in 240 Whby of German manufacture complete with Weatheby scope and factory letter. I have not shot it to this day but I plan to. Near present time I ran up on a Ultra Lightweight in 240 Whby of American manufacture that is one fun gun!

If you don't reload, ammo can be expensive especially in some calibers. If you do reload and don't mind burning up a little extra powder these two Weatherby cartridge designs and I would think many more, can be a lot of fun.

:)

My old Wby dates back to 1970, so it's not really comparable. It's a German-made Mark V, and about all I've done is rebed the forearm and install a Canjar trigger. With the #2 profile, 26" barrel in '06, it's on the heavy side, but it's pretty much a one MOA or better critter.

I've noticed that most Wby rifles have fairly slender barrels, so I wouldn't worry about shooting more than three shots for an assessment of accuracy. (Or any other hunting rifle, for that matter.)

I've had a few Wby's - currently have one. I had a German Mk V in 257 Wby, it was an impulse buy when I was into really pretty wood. I then bought one of the early USA produced guns in 300 Wby. I thought it was too heavy so I picked up one of their ultra-lights in 300 Wby. I like the ultra-light and I'm scheming on ways to make it lighter and shorter by cutting about 1 1/2 inches off the barrel. I haven't done it yet.

I have a 300 Weatherby Mark V synthetic. Mine shoots under an inch at 100 yards with two different factory loads. I like it alot.

Mine was made in Japan, what quality are those rifles compared to the German and U.S. manufactered ones?

Relative quality of Wby rifles is probably more of a Monday vs. Wednesday thing than a country thing. :) There were fewer made in Germany, so the collectors get more excited about them...

I have a Southgate FN Weatherby , has the 'deluxe' stock and a 'Saturn' brake and a Weatherby Imperial 2 3/4-10 scope (these were made by Nickle in Germany) . I used it since 65 when I got it from an old Gunsmith named Joe Dutra who used to work for Weatherby in South Gate. Also had a .257 German Mk 5 and a weird old .378Weatherby that was made on Danish Larsen action!:D
