I am looking to buy a new gun to CC. I have a 42 inch waist and am in a worm climate. I sweat sometimes and am afraid to get a blued gun because of that.
any thoughts?

I have a beer belly that goes in between 40" - 42". My winter carry is an OWB with a Kimber Ultra CDPII under a untucked shirt. Summer time usally means shorts and a pocket mouse.............PPK, Colt Mustang or a Model 21.

Are there any fairly inexpensive small framed large caliber revolvers to carry?

Shucks, you guys are just little fellers! I usually run between a 48" & 5o". Ususally I will pocket carry a S&W model 60 or sometimes a Keltec PF9.

Anything I want. The Clothes make the man here! Here (http://herohog.com/images/guns/CCW%20Clothes) are some pictures of the CCW vests I own. My wife is modeling them. I am NOT selling them or working for the company... I just like them!

How do you expect us to concentrate on the vest when we can't get past that pretty smile on your bride?

The vest works well enough, but as an option to a vest, or to an untucked shirt, is front pocket carry.

Cabelas sells Cargo shorts and pants that work for front pocket carry...even on my ample girth.

Everything from a Kel-Tec P3AT to a Glock 19 just disappears.

JD0608: Just Google the brand names and see what kinda price ya can get.

As to my bride, we have been married 27 years as of 7:30 PM today. I have NO Idea how she puts up with me! I will tell ya, she is MUCH better with a pistol than I am too! I suck these days, but at my best, I was pretty good but she was/is better on aimed target type shooting.

In winter it is really easy, I would just put a Jframe in a coat pocket.

Summer a little more tricky, but I am sure I could conceal a 4' Model 15 if I tried.

I'm large enough so that I don't like to carry IWB. I carry a Airweight J frame in my front pocket. At only 15 oz. I can carry all day without a problem. That is best for me. give it a try, you will probably like it... In the winter the same revolver in the same pocket holster gets transferred to my coat pocket.

OK - I qualify - do I win a twinkie ! LOL

No waist carry for me as I am two big round - you got some grow'n to do to catch up.

I pocket carry a small frame snub revolver. 13oz's of Taurus to be exact, in titanium and .32mag caliber. Works great for me anyway, and low maintenance - I do use a pocket holster most of the time.

For a small, cheap, easily concealable revolver, don't forget the NAA Mini in .22 mag. Is it as powerful as a .357? No. Would I want to get shot by one? Heck No!!!

You can get one for less than $300 with a cylinder for .22 mag and .22 LR

I am a 38" waist and pocket carry a S&W 340PD. Once we get into fall weather it is a G19 until summer in an IWB.

I weigh 185 wear size 40, and live in Arizona, (think Satan's vacation spot) and although I do not currently do so now, I have carried a Taurus 605 (.357mag) in the front pocket.

What I do carry is a Kahr MK9 in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster, although I've given more than one thought to pulling the revolver out of the safe again!!

I'm about 6 ft, and 300 lbs.

I carry a Colt Commander, a Glock 19, or a Smith & Wesson Model 19. Just depends on what I want to carry that day. Usually the Colt.

I carry a 296 or 642 in a Mika's pocket holster. The 296 fits ~75% of my pants - mainly cargo & jeans, the 642 so holstered fits everything. I wear 44 pants.

I know all about fat guy carry, I'm 6' and 250 pounds. I typically carry an XD45 compact IWB but this is really only an option in colder climates. For the rest of the year I carry a P232 and I'm buying a P3AT soon for pocket carry.

They say IWB doesn't work for fat guys but I prefer to just carry at around the 4 or 5 o'clock position

Portly 65 year old, I gave up on IWB carry and now carry S&W 642, S&W 640 or Taurus 85UL DAO in a pocket holster. I had my RF pockets all reinfoced and lengthened where neccessary and have no problem with it. I usually carry 640 in winter when I can wear suspenders under a sweater.
Surefire G36 and 2 Bianchi speed strips in left pocket and I have a weapons system!

I have a question which may be useful info for the OP, has anyone ever had a problem pocket carrying a J-frame sized revolver with an exposed hammer, or do they carry just fine with careful consideration?

Well, I think I may be nearly as tall lying down as I am standing up, so, I think I qualify. I pocket carry and it is very comfortable. I have either a KT P32 or a S&W 642 with me.

I am a 52 inch waist, and like pocket carry. With a butt as big as mine, I am always banging my OWB carry piece into doors, furniture, and steering wheels...

I find pocket carry to be better that OTB, and its usually a 3913 or a 640. Like the man said, big pants equal big pockets.

A Sig 225, 228, 229, and 245 also fit the same Desantis Nemisis, but the hammers often hang on cloth. When wearing sweats its a Seecamp.

I'm a 54", and I carry a Compact 1911 in a Beltster. Works good for ME, maybe not for everyone. FWIW - I've ordered a Milt Sparks VMII IWB holster, just to see what all the hoopla is about...folks seem to love 'em.

Tarvis:

I carried a S&W 60 around the house in my jeans for a year. Hammer did have a tendency to chew up pocket holsters and jeans. 60 is nightstand gun now. Yes, you can cover hammer with your finger, I just seemed to forget and caught the hammer several times in pocket. Bought the Taurus 85 ULBH (Ultra Lite Bobbed Hammer) and carry that around the place now. 642 and 640 are go to town guns.

Though I don't own one, I've heard good things. Take a look at a Charter Bulldog. 5 shot .44 special. How can you go wrong with that? I would say it would work decent for pocket carry, great for belt carry and it won't break the budget.

I myself own a SP101 with a 2" barrel that I use for pocket carry. Also a great choice.

My inside-the-pants hip holster has a leather panel that rises between the gun and the shirt, keeping sharp sights away from the shirt and sweat away from the gun. (Sorry, no, photo!)

If you go that route, be aware that it does NOT let you get near the safety (left side safety/right handed user) on the initial grip, not until the gun is drawn.

I think a coated gun makes more sense than a blued or stainless steel gun if it's likely to come into contact with perspiration: don't know what Tenifer is, but it doesn't seem to rust much.

Hey--who're you callin' large-waisted?

6'2", 305 lbs... I carry a model 19 S&W in a safariland pancake holster.
Fits nice and snug up against my love handles((sigh)). Tough to see under a t-shirt, which is what I wear most here in Northcentral AZ this time of the year when I am not at work.

As I've gotten heavier, and put on about 60 extra pounds, (now 5'9" and 290) I've got a problem with the ol' belly pushing the front of the pants down with most belt holsters . . . and IWB is out of the question. Thus, lightweight handguns are a definite benefit!

I have absolutely NO PROBLEM though, carrying a S&W Airweight J-frame in an Uncle Mikes #3 pocket holster. It is so light that it doesn't pull the pants down or flop around . . . something that can be a problem for us guys with an ample midsection!

Mine's a vintage 1971 Model 37 that, incidentally, comes WITH a hammer. Absolutely NO PROBLEM with the hammer causing problems with the draw with the Uncle Mike's holster.

I paid $350 for the pristine '71 Model 37 a few months ago, but good used Smith J-frames from the pre-lock era can be had, in lesser condition, finish-wise, for much less. I'd NEVER buy a new Taurus snubbie over a fine used S&W and could not be happier with my "new" Model 37. I also added the highly recommended Tyler T-grip. A cool set up indeed.

Here it is:

http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/363/363373/folders/282194/2328567IMG0121e.jpg

Frankly, a man is quite well armed with any J frame type, and your gun + pocket holster can be tossed in the pocket and know it is well concealed!

Hope this helps,

T.

I'm 6'4 and 310, I have no ass, so I have had trouble keeping my pants up with my bulgarian Makarov. So, I got a wilderness belt, because they can be adjusted perfectly. I don't think I ever go back from this type of belt. I carry a Smith 638 j-frame in a mika pocket holster. Looking into some suspenders for cold weather carry.

They hook on the belt, not some wimpy pinch clip on the pants. I use them daily with a heavy leather gunbelt and LOVE them! They come in any style you want from Dress to Camo and everything in between. The set I am wearing now I have use daily for 2 years and they are still going strong. I have no affiliation with them, I just use their products!
