Squirrel Hunting in Ca

Back in college I used to hunt squirrels and coyotes on a freind's ranch. The coyote hunts were fun, but I loved squirrel hunting with my .204 Ruger. Now that I've graduated and moved I don't have that option anymore and I've been itching to get back out there. The only hunting I've ever done was on his property so I really don't even know where to start if I want to do it now. Should I take a hunter's safety class? Do I need a hunting license? Is there even anywhere near the SF Bay Area to hunt squirrels with a rifle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By law, all hunters in CA, hunting on public or private land must obtain a Hunter Safety Certificate and purchase an annual license to hunt. Good Grey Squirrel hunting is more north than the Bay Area, but there are many locations around the delta to hunt ground squirrels, you just have to find a land owner that will let you kill them. When asking permission, don't go with your gun in the truck, go dressed semi-casual and kindly ask permisson for the future.

Ok, so a hunter's safety class and license are next on my list. Once that's done, where can I find land owners who might be willing to let me hunt on their property?
