All things being equal, will a IWB holster that is designed for the full size 1911 hold a commander size tightly?

YES!

At least it works for my Springfield Champion in a Desantis Cozy Partner.

Yes, but without the extra length of slide to fill out the end of the holster, it may deform over time, especially if you spend much time seated with the rig on. If you try going back to a full size gun in that holster, it won't fit properly (too tight at the muzzle).

Shouldn't be a problem if you just want to use a Commander in it all the time.

This isnt a problem with a kydex holster. The only difference between the Commander and the Government might be an additional turn or two on the retention screws. I've used both guns in both holsters too. Its no problem that the Government pokes out the end of the Commanders holster, still works fine.

I haven't found it to be a problem on any of my holsters. The only problem may be from a very precisely boned holster and trying to fit a 1911 with the Colt profile on the dust cover to an SA 1911 that has the thicker dust cover.

Yeah, should be no problem at all ;)
