P7M8: Locking the Slide Under Stress?

Anyone got any tips on locking the slide back under stress to clear double feeds? I had a kinda sorta double feed type of malf at the first stage of an IDPA match (on the mag I had been carrying for weeks!!! ) and was having a heck of a time trying to manipulate it prone. Hard to work it on the ground and not break the 180 rule.

First, how did you manage to get a double feed with a blowback pistol?!!!
Anyway, have you tried:
Switching hands (putting the gun in the left paw), and using the left trigger finger to push back the detent while the right operates the slide?
Alternative:
Grasp the slide toward the front with the left hand, using thumb and three fingers. Keep left index free to push back on catch. Obviously, this will take some practice to get it right.
Or:
Twist gun and rotate hand so you're looking at the left side and the barrel is pointed into the floor. Lock back with the right hand thumb, using the narrow part next to the nail.
Jams, in general, are unusual with this gun. That type of jam is really weird, since failures to extract are unusual in guns that don't require extractors.

The P7 has an extractor, if I have all my gun parts right...I don't know EXACTLY what happened...maybe it got caught on the feed ramp.

Shame on you for not posting this with the Cult!
Easiest way is to operate gun with hands reversed from standard operation (hold in left hand & use index finger on slide slide lock while operating slide with right hand).
Another way, and this works while prone is to brace your left elbow on the ground and grasp slide firmly towards rear serrations. Tilt P7 right side upwards with muzzle at 30-45 degree angle downwards, brace rear of gun firmly against pads of right hand (where your callouses would be) -this will naturally let you index your right thumb to the slide lock. Now push down strongly with right hand (and shoulder) to operate slide and lock it with your right thumb. This position will allow you to keep low while doing malfunction/clearance drills without having to raise your head. It also allows you to observe both right & left sides of pistol by slightly tilting hand either way. Bracing your left elbow will also give you additional leverage.
Of course, if you are left-handed, go to your BUG.

Can't carry a BUG at IDPA, and there wouldn't have been a safe way to draw it without breaking the 180...I guess that's the disadvantage of live fire practice at a range.
Gosh I want that P2000 Subcompact!

what you did was limp-wrist it-very common from the prone position.
One of the drawbacks to a piece with a heavy recoil spring like the p7.
Great guns, but not all that uber reliable in my opinion.

I've never seen a double feed with a P7. In fact, the only P7 malfunctions I have seen have been related to out of spec reloaded ammo. When I set up a double feed with one, I find that I can strip the magazine out without locking the slide back. There is a short-cut clearance of a double feed with a Glock that usually works (pull out magazine, let any debris fall out of mag well , reinsert). This may work with a P7. If the chamber is occupied by an empty case, it may require a T-R-B.

Always used the inside edge of the knuckle of my strong-hand thumb to trip the slide-lock. Mebbe may not work for those of smaller paw.

Uh, are we talking about the same P7? :uhoh:

Anthony, I was thinking that, perhaps I was getting the push pull I usually get as my elbows were on the deck?

Tam, can you post a pic? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

My P7s have about total 15,000 rounds in IPSC matches without malfunction. Never even heard of a double feed. My large thumb had trouble operating the slide lock until I cut a notch in the grip, now I have no problems. If you are prone you can roll on your side to give your elbows room to move.

All guns break or malf at some point. If you don't know how to clear a malf in your gun, learn. If it is uber-difficult to clear, get a new gun. (Like a 1911...you know you want one Skunk! :D ) ;)

Wait a tick! Surely (stop calling me Shirley) ITTS had you do mal drills on the deck!?!? Did you take the Uberpistola or the Pastapistol?

I've only had stovepipes. I thought a double feed was nearly impossible on a P7.

FWIW it was the last round in the mag.

The only thing I'd change about the P7 is make that thing easier to get to. Everything else on the gun is superb. I love the HK mag releases.

I'll get a 1911 when HK makes one...oooh...tactical! Or I can get one of those Kimber ICQB so I can pretend I'm an operator...oooh! Tactical! FBI chooses Springfield! Ooooh! Professional :p :D :neener:
Nice thing about my Beretta is I can clear type 1, 2, 3 and combination thereof malfunctions hung over on soju, blindfolded and my paws tied behind my back.....just gotta spend more time with Graciepoo.

I took the spaghettie western pizza pistol...Actually at ITTS we picked them up off the deck but cleared them from a kneeling position. The fun part is when...nah I don't wanna give it away :D :D :D

I dunno, I'm gonna ask another question about the mag....
