Free gun! Which of these would you choose??

If you won a drawing for a free gun and these were your choices, which would you choose and why? Which would you avoid and why?
1. Ruger KP90 .45
2. Beretta 86 .380
3. Taurus 92 9mm
4. Uberti 1873 452c Nickel
5. S&W 66 357 Mag
This is all the information about them. I assume they're all new.

The Beretta 92FS design has been good to me (no FTFs or FTEs on my 92FS). So I would say get the Taurus 92 which would be quite close to the Beretta. I also could easily go for the S&W 357.
If the guns are new it would be a toss-up between those two. If they were used, I would pick the one in the best condition of the two mentioned above.

I own all those except for the Beretta and they are all so good it's impossible to pick one .
It would have to be an eenie meenie type of thing.
Maybe the Uberti....

I'd take the S&W, bout time I got another wheeliegun.

In general, I'd take the Ruger 45.
At the moment, I'm looking for a big .380 to shoot up my carry ammo after I no longer want to carry it. I have shot my carry gun enough to know it's reliable, and I don't enjoy shooting little guns.
So, if you made me choose right now, I'd take the Beretta 86.

All are great guns, and thus a hard choice. Basically it comes down to what I already have and what I need. The first one is hands down (if nickel), the next three are practically tied, the last one is a good gun but it is solidly last in this group of choices (though on my "wish list").
My choices in order and why:
1)Beretta 86, but only if it is nickel. In nickel and keeping the wood grips it has to be the prettiest gun made. Look great and feel good in the hand (I'm still kicking myself for not buying one of the two I saw about 2 years ago, but my cash was limited and I didn't want to pay $500+ for a .380 when I could get a nice 9mm for that, plus I figured they'd always be available- darned MD built-in lock law). In blue it would move to 4 or 5, still a nice .380 (possibly the nicest made) but when I eventually get one (sometime after I leave MD unless I'm lucky enough to find one used and in good shape) it will be in nickel.
2) (number 1 if above isn't nickel), the Uberti. I don't yet have a SA revolver and I want one. I wouldn't mind .357mag, .44spl or even .44mag but getting one in the classic .45lc would be a bonus. Nickel would be OK but for my first SA revolver I would prefer case hardening or bluing so it might move down to 3 with the Taurus moving up, I'd have to see it to be sure. Sight unseen (if that is the only option) I'd take the chance and get the nickel.
3) Taurus 92. I want one anyway. One can always use yet another hi-cap 9mm (right now I only have one). Incredibly reliable, decently accurate, good build quality and decent finish. Actually, this placement is only if it is the blued model, I hate the stainless finish on Taurus autos (their frames are aluminum alloy and something about the particular stainless finish they have over the aluminum just doesn't look good to me), if it is stainless it would move down one.
4) S&W. I love Smith revovlers, I love .357s, but I have a few already so it wouldn't be a priority (now if it was a 3" it might move up to 1 or 2).
5) Ruger KP90. Bulky, kinda "cluncky" but 100% reliable. I also love the caliber. The Ruger auto that I am most likely to own (looks and feel similar to the KP89 that I sold but actually accurate unlike my P89).

As I'm lacking wheels, I'd get the Smith.

September 9, 2003, 08:00 AM
Ruger P90, but the Taurus 92 is running a hot and heavy second!! I'd have to flip a coin between the two!!! ;)
I sold my beretta 92FS and kept my Taurus. I like the way it can be carried cocked and locked! The Ruger?? Well, it's a ruger!! What else can I say, except that I prefer the P97. But, the P90 is a very good gun!!
I would stay away from that Italian thing, whatever it is, and the Smith. Just because it's, well, a Smith!! Never heard of that Itailian watchamcallit!!! :D

1. S&W 66 (Gotta love Smith wheelguns.)
2. Ruger KP90 (Would go well with my P89DC.)
3. Taurus PT92 (Had a PT99 and only sold it because I needed cash.)
4. Uberti (I could always use a SA wheelgun.)
5. Beretta (I'm not too big a fan of the .380 ACP round.)

Smith 66.
Only because it's the nicest gun of the bunch, and has the highest resale value (as mentioned earlier) in case I don't want it.

Uberti. You can never have too many Colt SA clones.

September 9, 2003, 01:02 PM
1. Uberti 1873 452c Nickel -- I have 3 Ruger 45 Colt SA wheelguns but no Colt clone. This would fit the bill (assume this is 45 Colt?)
2. Beretta 86 .380 -- I don't have a small 380 auto and this would be the bee's knees
3. S&W 66 357 Mag -- no Smith or 357 in the armory...why not?
4. Ruger KP90 .45 -- I have plenty of 45 Auto's so this is low on the list
5. Taurus 92 9mm -- no interest in the Beretta 9mm design so this would be resale bait

1. Uberti, in 45 Colt. Always liked the Peacemaker but never owned or shot one.
2. S&W M66, Always liked S&W 357's. This is one of the best they ever made.

Here's my list in order of preference:
1. Beretta 86. I love little .380s (already have 4) and this one would be great to add. Plus, these have a decent resale value.
2. S&W 66. I actually sold a 3" 66 not too long ago and don't have a .357 at the moment. If it had a 2.5" barrel, it would probably move to the #1 spot. Pretty good resale value too.
3. Taurus 92. I already have a Beretta 92 that I'm happy with. Might trade or sell the Taurus.
4. Ruger KP90. I love the .45 round, but don't like the looks of the Ruger. Would sell or trade.
5. Uberti. I'm just not into single action revolvers. Would sell or trade.
It would be nice if there was more information about them. Of course, the order could change upon examination of the actual guns.

I have a police turn-in M64 that could use a .357 stablemate.
Based on some of the Smith prices I've seen, I could shoot the darn thing for a couple years and sell it for more than any of the other choice if I so desired.

Beretta 86 .380 for me. I have always liked the way they look but they seemed a little pricy so I never seriously considered buying one. I have no use for a .380 of that size but it seems like it would be a nice gun to own if given to me.
My second choice would be a S&W 66 with a short bbl. If they do a 2", I'll take that.

September 9, 2003, 11:44 PM
The Beretta 86 is not a small .380. It's one of the two or three BIGGEST .380 pistols I'm aware of on the U.S. market.

the 66, of course.

The Smith; I need a good revolver. This is kinda like a guy from a Chevy family buying a Mustang, but there aren't any Colt revolvers on the list. No flies on a 66, though. :p
Second, the Uberti for fun shooting.
I like B-92s, so try the Taurus. The Ruger's ugly to my eye, but function has a beauty of its own. Tied for third.
And the B-86? I don't have enough handguns to be adding .380s at this point.

except it is free...in theory.
No to 380's. If I am gonna get a single action revolver..it'll be a workhorse Ruger or save my peenies and get a real Colt...not a copy. Don't care for Nine's, though I have shot quite a few, including owning a Taurus 99. It worked great and was accurate and very BIG.
The Smith and Wesson would be my choice for resale value......then get another 1911 of some sort....
If I HAD to keep it..but some silly theoretical rule...then I guess I'd get the Ruger....maybe use it for a stash gun in a discreet hidely hole about the house...or trade it to my brother to get my Colt 1991A1 Commander I gave him for a wedding present back!! Haha!

Well, I have a Taurus PT99 and a 686 so I wouldn't chose the 92 or the 66. Have a Blackhawk in 45 Colt so I wouldnt be all over the Uberti. Not sure what I think about the Beretta 86 and though I think they are fine guns, I've never been fond of the Ruger pistols. I guess I'd take the Beretta to have a decent 380.
Actually, right now, today, if I won said contest, I'd probably take the tip-barrel Beretta to send it to Preacherman for the disabled folks he's trying to help out.
