Galco SOB holsters

I've been poking around the auction sites in search of leather for my Walther PPK/S. I've seen two different versions of the Galco SOB (one positions the gun parallel to the belt, resulting in the butt of the gun pointing straight up and the other positions positions the butt at approximately a 45 degree angle). I remember the butt-up style as the original Galco SOB and was wondering why it was changed. Seems to me, it would be easier for the gun to fall out with the old style, but there was a retention screw. Anybody know why the angle was changed?

I'm looking solely for information purposes and am not interested in debating whether or not a handgun should be carried in this fashion.

It was probably changed for the reason you stated. I can't imagine it being and easier to present canted upward. It may conceal better canted up like that too.

SOB holsters are not a great idea. They don't conceal substantially better than a strong side holster worn in the FBI position (front of holster just aft of trouser side seam), they are slower, you do not provide any retention options if someone is trying to snatch your weapon, carrying anything metal over your spine is dangerous should you take a hard fall.

I'd recommend a pass.

 OK, but that wasn't my question. I was wondering why they changed the cant.

I think its because the holster flopped around when in the sitting position.
