I'm sure this has been asked before, but yesterday at the gun shop I saw my old Gp100,and it got me thinking that I should buy it back.....so.....What guns are you sorry you sold, traded or wahtever, and did you get them back???
I'm seriously thinking of buying this gun back....it's an older GP100 blue6",it's nothing to look at,which is probably why it's still there, but it has a sweet trigger, and is wicked accurate........I traded it for a Dan Wesson w/ 3 different barrels, that SUCKED....I got rid of it ASAP....now I long for the GP back......

Argh. You snake, for askin' this question:) . It'd be an Ike Stark customized 1911. Beautiful craftsmanship, perfect weight distribution, easy pointer, and expensive, too.
Loaned it out to a guy I considered a friend (hung around together for almost 4 years, and saw each other at least twice a week over that time). He disappeared with no forwarding address about a month after I loaned him the gun for an out-of-state IPSC shoot (his gun was screwed up). A hard lesson. Taught me that "shooting buddies" are just that, and most are nothing more.

My first pistol was a S&W 669 (probably why I'm a fan of the S&W autos). I traded a Winchester Defender for it. I regretted it almost instantly, not because I didn't like the 669, but because I missed my Defender!
I eventually traded the 669. Regretted letting it go. I think what I've learned is, unless I just really don't like the gun, I'll regret trading it, no matter what it is.
A while back, I considered trading my P225. I did come to my senses before I actually did it.

Now that I think about it,I regret all the handguns I've traded with the exception of the Dan Wesson........
It was usually a case of what I liked more at the time,or needed.....I traded 2 revolvers for an auto for IDPA,but I miss both revolvers.....
I guess from now on I'll just actually save money to buy something instead of trading stuff......although my Glock 17 cost me nothing after trading in some shotguns I never use.......

A six inch model 686 that I owned for fifteen years and probably ten thousand rounds between the PPC range, plinking, and squirrel hunting of all things (actually got a few...scared a lot more). It did finance my entire hunting season a few years ago, and I was really getting heavily into big bores at the time and wasn't shooting it much anymore. Still.........

I have sold or traded only two firearms over the years.
1) A NAA mini-revolver in .22 mag....complete junk in my opinion.
2) A Browning BDM in 9mm, without the hi-cap mags. An okay pistol, just not quite a Browning Hi-Power.
I have not regretted either sale, as I was able to move on to bigger and better things, and actually made money on one sale.
So, there are no regrets.
When I buy something, it usually goes in the safe and never gets away.

There are a few.
Ruger MKII
S&W 4506
S&W 6" 586
S&W 442
Rossi 877
Charter Arms Pathfinder
Stevens 311
There are others that I could list as well.
I have, at one time or another, regreted selling/trading all the guns that I ever sold/traded.
I never got any of them back, and only know the whereabouts of one; the 586.

The only gun I sometimes wish I hadn't sold is a Kahr MK40. It was a great gun, I just sold it to eliminate .40 caliber from my collection. My PM9 keeps me from missing it too much though.
Everything else I've sold, I don't really miss.

Similar story to Standing Wolf actually.
Interestingly ..... two guns I still ''miss'' are - an old MkII BSA target .22 .... martini action .... I used that for high standard small bore compo's way back and traded it for my first S&W M27 ..... thing is .... it did not make much really .... and it had, butt hook and adjustable butt end plate, adjustable hand stop ..... top notch Parker sights with many aperture inserts. Also it was a thumbhole stock .... a lovely rifle and I wish to blazes I still had it. :(
Other one was not an expensive gun but was a folding .410 single shot shotgun ...... very light ... easy to tote and great for small vermin shooting. Ever so convenient carry and with mag shells was a useful piece. That too was traded in against something else and didn't make much either.:(
Other pieces that went way back are replaced now ...... selling is bad!!!:p

There are several handguns that I wish I hadn't sold but the one that sticks in my mind the most latly is my S&W 586 4"bbl. Nothing special as 586s go but I liked it and it shot as good as any handgungun I have ever owned.

A gorgeous, five-inch barreled Smith and Wesson Model 27 .357 Magnum. It was beautiful...any previous owner(s) had treated it very well...had those great target stocks, the counterbored chambers, checkered topstrap, wide target hammer and trigger, lustrous blue finish, on and on and on, etc., etc., etc....picked it up for only $225 back in '91 and had to turn right around and sell it again due to some financial pressures...ugh...

I've regretted to some degree every gun I've ever sold except one (my Ruger 10/22 rifle, just never could warm up to it).
-Taurus 82. My first gun and a good one. I love revolvers and I love Taurus. However, it was a .38, I wanted a .357mag, I bought a .357mag and at that time I didn't think I'd own very many guns so I sold it. Stupid, stupid, stupid:banghead: .
-Ruger KP89. It was my first auto. I kind of liked it but I wasn't very accurate with it (no one that shot it was), I was much better with my buddy's Ruger P90. It also was too big and felt quite "clunky". It was 100% reliable. I sold it and probably shouldn't have since it was my first auto. I wouldn't mind having it back, or one like it, but I don't like the design enough to be very motivated to spend the money. I regret it a bit (a lot at the time) but that is tempered by the fact that I wouldn't have bought my Charles Daly 1911 without this trade and I like the Daly more than I miss the Ruger.
-Mossberg 500 Persuader- 12ga. My first shotgun. I loved the thing, when I bought it and first shot it I still remember the rush, the smile it brought to me and the feeling that "why did I wait so long for a shotgun". However, financial difficulties ensued and I figured that it would be the easiest to replace (not too expensive) and would give me the best ratio of used price v. what I paid for it of all my guns. Well, I still haven't replaced it because I can't bring myself to paying almost $100 more than I got for it to get the same thing plus I am somewhat limited in where I can shoot a defensive shotgun in this area.
-Taurus 605. Didn't like shooting .357 out of this little J-frame type gun, heavier than the 85 (.38spl) so seemed a waste to only use it for .38s and I needed money. I pawned it, planning to redeem it after I got my paycheck (I had just started a job and bills were coming due before my first paycheck would come) and then decide if I would sell it or just keep it as a compromise (occasional .357 at the range to remind myself what it felt like out of this gun and the ability to safely use any .38+P that came my way). Well, my paycheck was delayed and when it came I decided to let it go (I decided to sell) and I didn't want to rush to the bank and then the pawnshop to redeem it (I also figured the loss v. what I'd sell myself wouldn't be that great when adding the "interest"/extortion fee back in). Looking back I should have kept it- 1)I didn't get another snub for about a year, 2)it was a good gun, 3)I might have gotten used to .357 out of it, and 4)it could have been used with any +P that came my way or I managed to cook up (I now reload for revolvers).
-CZ 40B. It didn't quite do it for me. Not a great fan of the caliber, it was alloy so a little light for just a target gun and it was quite wide to be my future CCW for when I finally got to a CCW state (which was its intended role). However, it was reasonably accurate (more than "good enough", just a tad disappointing in light of my CZ 75B's incredible accuracy), it felt good in my hand (though not as good as my 75B), and it was a CZ (I love CZs). I needed the money and it helped me finance another gun so I guess it was fine to rid myself of a gun that I sort of liked but that didn't quite do it for me and that I rarely brought to the range. However, had I waited a bit longer and Walmart and Winchester brought out the White Box 100 rd value packs in .40s&w while I still had it I probably wouldn't have sold it.
That is it so far. The only one I truly "kick" myself over is the Taurus 82, but I do regret all of them to some extent. However, I have simply learned to be more careful what I buy. It is painful to part with any gun that you don't hate, however, we all have limited resources and I'd rather sell a gun I'm lukewarm over to get something that I will like. I will be restricting my sales to guns I don't like or that I'm lukewarm over and I'm sure I'll like what I'm replacing it with (and then only if I will be replacing it within the month and not "eventually"). Short of money, well I'll try to be sure that isn't a necessity again, but if it is I'll pick the least bad sale (one cheap to replace, one I don't use much anymore, one that is more or less a duplicate of something else or at least in the same catagory).

The one I was most sorry I let go was my 5" 625-4. I wound up trading my ex-beau a ParaOrd P-12 to get it back. (Ironically, I have traded it away again in favor of a 5" 625-2, an identical, but slightly more collectable, piece.)
Other stars of my "wish I still had that one" reminiscings are (occasionally) my SP-89 and Spectre, my Lithgow SMLE, my old 3" RB 13, a 1911 parts gun that shot exceptionally well, my nickelled Series 70 lightweight Commander, Broomhandle Mauser, pre-'63 Detective Special, heavily customized Marlin 1894...

uglymofoHe disappeared with no forwarding address about a month after I loaned him the gun for an out-of-state IPSC shoot If I were in your shoes, I'd fill out a police report on a stolen pistol. That's what it sounds like to me. You loaned a pistol for a specific IPSC match and the pistol was never returned. At least get on the record that the pistol is out of your hands. I'll bet LE can find your "friend".
To answer the original question there are two pistols I'd want back: A Colt Combat Commander in 9MM -- first pistol I owned; and a Colt S70 GM I sold to a friend. In an effort to replace it I've bought five others, but it's just not the same.

A Colt Lawman. First revolver I ever bought (brand spanking new at that). I later aquired a Python and the Lawman just sat. A friend conned me out of it and still has it today some 25 years later. That was truly my knock around, go anywhee gun. He won't part with it, but atleast I know it has a good home and still occasionally see it.
Made the same mistake years later in a trade with my Browning Challenger II. A High Standard found it's way home with me and the Browning was pushed aside then later traded. One day I will learn. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Wow. Looks like I'm the only goofball that has paid twice for the same gun(s). How embarrassing.
Colt Viper, blued, 98%: Made one year only--1977--basically an alloy framed Police Positive. Bought it for $275 and took it out and fired it before I realized I was never going to see another one <wince>. Sold it for $200. Bought it back for $325. Just paid $750 for a NIB nickel one, so I guess $400 overall isn't too bad.
Colt Government 380, Stainless, First Edition in presentation case, 100% NIB: Bought for $425, sold for $400, bought back for $500. This gun has the prettiest ebony wood stocks, with Colt logo, I've ever seen. I fooled myself into thinking it was an investment. I just like to look at the gun.
Colt Python, 1967, 6", Royal Blue, 99+++%: Bought at a gun show for $580, sold for $500, looked around at what they cost and bought it back for $600.
There are others, but this is just getting too damn painful to relive. On day I'll learn not to spend ALL my money on guns.
Then I won't have to sell them to eat.

I've sold quite a few, including a SIG P226, Glock 23, Glock 30, Springfield Champion, HK USP .40, Steyr SPP, Astra A-75, Kel-Tec P11, and a few more I can't recall.
I don't regret selling any of them. I didn't enjoy shooting any of them with the exception of the SPP.
On occasion I have been tempted to sell my pre series 70 Combat Commander in 9mm that my dad gave me on my 21st birthday (the same one I used to inadvertently put a hole in the bedroom wall) but fortunately sanity always prevailed.

I sold several when I plain and simple needed the money. Those were hard decisions, but I accept them. Among the guns I sold to obtain other guns, however, there is one significant regret.
My Colt Series 80 blued Government Model (serial #FG66500): If any of you runs across it and wants to sell it, I'm the one to talk to. If you don't want to part with it, you've got a fine pistol on your hands. I just hope whoever has it is treating it nice. The CZ75 that took its place could not fill that .45's shoes.
I've traded off prettier, rarer, and more expensive guns, but none like that one. I just get attached to a pistol once I've carried it for years. When the bluing wears thin under the gripping position of your own fingers, you stand a good chance of valuing that gun above its market worth.
