La. Officer Teams with Nike to Create Police Sneaker
09/08/2003
The Associated Press
HAMMOND, La. -- Standard-issue combat boots aren't the most comfortable for chasing down criminals. So Matt Savona teamed up with Nike to create an athletic shoe designed for police officers.
Savona, an officer with the Hammond Police Department, developed the shoe on the Web site of shoe giant Nike, then conferred with the company about the design for several weeks. He and his colleagues eventually bought 26 pairs.
The $95 shoes arrived in March and are worth the price tag, Savona said.
"You spend what, ... 12 hours running, jumping, riding in a police car or chasing people, and they're so comfortable," he said.
The local police union ordered the shoes, paying $55 and leaving each officer to pay the remaining $45 per pair.
The shoes are black, with POLICE on the right outside of the shoe, and HPD on the back, in yellow-gold thread.
The shoe-designing trend is spreading to other police departments, Savona said.
So far, sheriff's offices in Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes have expressed interest in creating their own brand of police sneakers, he said.

One of the guys that works for me just got a set of Nike tactical boots from some web site in England somewhere. I haven't seen them yet, but will post again once I have. Supposedly they are the heat.

The Oakley's are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn, and at 85 bucks they are cheaper.

I'll put my Original SWAT boots up against them any time they like. Totally comfortable for running or walking all day long.

Skunk,
They are light weight, waterproof, and comfortable for all day wear. I really like mine allot. I also find that the sole gives a very positive grip on most surfaces.

Can't wear Nikes, they don't make them wide enough.
My Mama was so tactical, she bought me and her matching Danners.
Not really, she just bought me mine, when I couldn't afford them on a PFC's salary...

Hm. I could use a pair. I know that Nike makes size 18 athletic shoes (heck, they're all I wear off duty), and I've been struggling with keeping my feet shod in appropriate department-approved footgear. At $95, that ain't bad, for me!
Hey-- just how is this on-topic?

Skunk, low ground pressure, allows us to walk across bogs or wet cement, or up walls with wet paint.
It's more tactically correct to have big feet.:D

Shaq wears size 22's (I think, ) and he's over 7' 2"...
So, um.. Matt, that would mean that your somewhere between 6'6''- 6'10" in height, right? :uhoh: :what:

Now the dumocrats are going to ban any civilian shoes having more than 10 eyelets. Of course, the "assault zippers" which are laced into boots to permit rapid removal without the need to untie the laces are going to require a $200 tax stamp for possession.
