Hi everybody.
First of all, thanks to all of you who provided input in this (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4939012) thread.

I went to the store to see how the grip of different guns felt and I just had to go for it... I got myself a brand new Glock 22C.

I can't wait 'til the paperwork gets done and I can go to pick it up!

Congrats. I sure wish everyone would at least put in a state for a location so that we can see what happens where. Like, you mentioned that you had to wait for the paperwork. I would like to be able to know what states one can't just walk out with a gun. I feel for you. I've bought several guns this past week. For one of the purchases, I told the salesman I only had about 5 minutes but if he wanted to sell the gun, I'd fill out the form while he took my money. We got it done and I was shooting it that night.

I live outside the US, in Chile.

Here, in order to buy a gun you are required to:

1.- psychiatrist examination, saying you are fit to own a gun.
2.- A clean criminal record
3.- a certificate to register your home address

Once you have all this, you go to buy a gun, and with the papers from the store you have to go to the military to get a permit. After that you can go and take your gun home.
Also, if you want to take your gun to the range, you have to go to the military and ask for a permit, which is valid for 1 day and only to carry between your home and the range.

I also learned today that if you own a shotgun, it is illegal to fire it inside city limits...

Meanwhile, criminals do whatever they want.

TJK, welcome to THR and gun ownership. A lot of us (myself included) take our 2A freedoms for granted sometimes. Then we hear about how bad it is in ********** or New York, and we say "that sucks." When we hear about some of the legal hoops other countries have, it really puts into perspective what freedom we have, even in the worst states.
Join your local clubs and at least fight the good fight together. Grass-roots efforts can be powerful in the right, fertilizer-rich environment.
If there's absolutely no hope, just know that we'd like you, and we're not going anywhere if we can help it. :D

The gun was around $1000. It was a bit pricey, since in our capital city one can find them for 850-900, but I bought it in a reputable store in my city.
For 100 rounds I paid $55.
For permits, it costs around $100.
Also you must pay the psychiatrist evaluation, but my health insurance covers that.

Max permited ammo to buy for home use is 100 rounds a year, but you can buy more in shooting ranges, to use them there.

You can have max 2 guns registered to your name.

Great choice. that what I carry every day and love it. mine is a .40 cal but I also have the .22 lr conversion for ti so i can shoot all day for less then 20 bucks. also you can get a 9mm barrell and clip that drops right in. or a .40cal if you got the 9mm. I also have a "behind trigger safety" that makes it safer to carry. look into those. they dont slow you down at all when you have to draw down on someone. here is a pic of mine.
