I really don't want to get into another caliber. I have handguns in .38, .357, 9mm, .32acp, .45acp, and .22lr. However, I was at the "toy store" today and spied a Rossi M720 in .44 special. This is a very nice looking little stainless revolver with a 3" bbl. I know there are a lot of people that don't care for Rossi, especially the Interarms versions, but why is this thing calling out to me. And, to top it off, the asking price is $249.:banghead:

44spl is sweet. Just because you are adding another caliber doesn't mean you need to stock a ton of ammo for it. Pick up some Gold Dots or Silver Tips, try several for function, load the cylinder, and put it where you need it.
Would be a great addition to your garage, glovebox, boat, tent...

That's a pretty easy one. Sell the 32 and 9mm, get the 44. Problem solved, and with one less caliber to stock. :neener:
Now, as to it being a Rossi you're going to have to look it over hard, judge the gun on it's own merits, and check the store's return policy.

I would have to say you are already screwed with the number of calibers you have, so one more couldn't hurt. However, It does depend on if you have filled this niche already with another caliber.

But what happens during TEOTWAWKI or SHTF when the only ammo left at the store is .44 special? "Oh woe is me!" you will cry. "I should have bought that Rossi back in 2008!"
Until you have one of everything, you don't have enough.

How about a revolver that takes .45acp? I think Taurus makes a .45acp Tracker.

Oh dear... I'm guessing you have a Dillon progressive machine like some of the rest of us too. (RL550b in 4 calibers for me). Does yours make those little sounds like mine does when I walk to my truck before work in the morning? Mine goes "Pssst... Chris... hey! Wait! Don't leave... you haven't said "hi" to me this week... I'm lonely and blue (baaaaad joke)...Be sure to buy more primers 'cause I'm gettin' dry...Please...?"
Hey, will giving some plasma at the blood bank get me enough cash so I can actually afford 1,000 copper plated bullets for my Springfield?!

I have handguns in .38, .357, 9mm, .32acp, .45acp, and .22lr.
Phydeaux642,
I own handguns in all the calibers you listed and one additional caliber, the .45 Colt. For a long time I tried to buy only guns in the calibers I already owned until I realized I was passing up guns I really wanted so I decided not to worry about it any longer. If you like the gun and have the funds, buy it and don't worry about calibers. I don't have a .44 Special but I hear they are great to shoot!

Although the Rossi is a pretty good gun, and the .44 spec. a great caliber, I would wait and satisfy the urge by getting a revolver in .45 acp, a caliber you already have. Same ballistics, but you can use moonclips, and no new caliber.

Oooooooooooo... .44 spl is a great caliber. I know next to nothing about Rossi's, but I shot .44 spl a lot out of my SRH. That would be tempting. :)
Besides, of course you need another caliber. You don't have one of each yet, do you? :neener:

you need .44 mag, .45 lc, 12 ga, 30.06, etc.
.44 mag will also shoot the .44 spl.
Good luck.

If you have to dump a caliber to get the .44SPL, dump the .45ACP...with the .44 & 9mm, you'll never miss it... :D

I went back and looked at it a bit closer today. It looks to be in good cosmetic shape. There was just the slightest hint of endshake and a little side to side movement in lockup. I know with S&W the side to side is not a big deal. I know nothing about Rossi, however.

I really don't want to get into another caliber.
Yes you do. ;)
The .44 Special is awesome. Buy the Rossi. You will be glad you did. I started with a CA Bulldog. Now, years later, I have a 696 as well, and want a M-24! :)
But what happens during TEOTWAWKI or SHTF when the only ammo left at the store is .44 special? "Oh woe is me!" you will cry. "I should have bought that Rossi back in 2008!"I like that. Some folks tell me I should have more ammo of various kinds. Well, I have a goodly supply in various calibers, but if that is gone, now I need a gun to match what I can get.
(Inner voice) - Go get the Rossi

Phydeaux - I say hold out for a revolver in 45 ACP. Then, you have the gist of it, but without another caliber. There are a million 45 ACP revolvers by S&W & Colt from WWII just floating around at gun shows.
Also, moon clips are a faster way to reload than speedloaders, if that matters to you.
