Have you ever developed an inexplicable liking for a rifle?

Have you ever developed an inexplicable liking for a rifle? It may be ugly, perhaps not that accurate, not that practical, maybe purchased from a total stranger at a gunshow or online....but there is just something about it that you find very appealing, and you know you couldn't bear to sell it, even though that seemed to be a reasonable thing to do at times? Mines a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem.

Oddly enough, I rather like the Rem 710. Just seems practical for many aspects of my current situation. Havent heard anything bad about it besides "it feels plasticky" or "you cant swap stuff out (yada yada yada)".

My stainless Ruger Mini-14 w/ folding stock.

yeah... i have. one of my 7 rem mags is shot out. the stock designs is so poor that the rifle feels like it kicks harder than most 300 mags shooting 20 or more grains of bullet weight... the rifle is ugly. but, i can't bear the thought of trading it off or selling it. just funny that way, i guess.

I feel like I just went to confession. Do the cheap Bulgarian waffle magazines count as mitigating circumstances???

I had a Mas49/56, thought the rifle was made like the old Brownings, sturdy. Traded it off after awhile, because of the hassle for the ammo.
I liked many of my surplus rifles at one time or another. Now days Im strickly into my AK and AR rifles.

Remington Model 8 Woodsmaster iin .35 Remington. I came across it in a local gunshop and something deep in my mind went *ping*. One of the first semiauto sporting rifles and John Moses Browning's last sporting rifle design. I'm restoring it to original condition and plan on using it deer hunting this year. I don't know why I'm doing it. I have other deer rifles. The Model 8 is a stone cold recoiling beast. There's no real way to mount a scope. There's just something deep down inside me that says "You've got to take a deer with this rifle."

Can't explain it really.

Turk Model '93 Mauser, cut down and with Williams peep-sight. It kicks like a Missouri mule and it's_only marginally accurate, but it feels "right' when I put it to my shoulder. Sometimes I sit in my room and just hold it.

ALL my rifles are explicable. Even the inexplicable ones.

A used CZ American with very fancy wood - in .22 WMR of all things. I don't need a .22 mag and hadn't owned one since the early or mid-60s.

Sure is pretty the way the full-length fiddleback pattern shifts with the angle of the light. ;)

i saw a brace of fine looking DSA FALs on the cover of this weeks SGNews

From their camo clad furniture, they call to me

I dunno. The FNH Ultima Ratio Intervention, OM .50 Nemesis, and SPR A5 just look like they would be so fun and accurate. And they're actually available to civilians! Supposedly, at least. Anybody have any info on them?

Also, a target Sharps in .45-70 seems like it would quickly become one of my favorite guns, if I got one.

Probably would have to be my Hungaruian M-44 carbine.:p

I kind of really enjoy shooting my 1894c, between that and a S&W 13 and 586 are my favorites.

Boy what a great question....you see I could answer a question easily about what gun I would never sell...but inexplicably tied to one would be a rem 788 carbine in 243 . It is a beater I bought for $250, and has an old Tasco scope that for sure has seen some truck mount time. For some reason i just love it..as ugly as it is it just feels good to me. I have some of the best rifles money can buy but if a friend were to ask me to go hunting with him, i'd probably take that dang 788.

Mosin-Nagant 91/30. After seeing "Enemy at the Gates" I fell in love with that rifle and had to have one.

1894 Marlin in .357. Just perfect for fun at the range. Wouldn't be my first choice for home defense (I'd rather use an inexpensive SKS - remember guns are confiscated).

Ruger No.1 International. I have no use for this rifle whatsoever, but I absolutely had to have one. :uhoh:

My overall favorite is my Garand.....but...

Lately the FAL bug bit and for the last two years I have yet to find a cure. Built an Imbel Fal on an Imbel reciever, shoots nice and I don't know, (because I built it I guess) she is special. Currently buiding a G-1 and with another Imbel kit waiting in the wings. As long as surplus 7.62 fodder abounds I see the FAL addiction lasting a while.

No, I guess I can pretty well explain the liking of any rifle, including the ones I own and some that I don't, having to do with either:

1. Accuracy
2. Utility for 'x' purpose, including ergonomics, weight, and other features.
3. Beauty
4. Value/Low cost
5. Historical implications
6. Fun/cheap to shoot/low recoil
7. Has full-cap mags available

or some combination. But I don't own that many.

Gun-fucious, yeah, I want a DSA FAL in .260 with the woodland camo, even on the scope, as pictured on the current SGN. Hey, did you also envy the bullpup muzzleloaders advertised therein? JK. :scrutiny:

Another Marlin lever gun here, in my case, an 1894 in 44Mag. I find myself going to the safe just to handle it...can't explain it, there's something about that gun.

I fell in love with my CZ 550 Varmit Laminate even before I tried the set trigger . . . . hmmmm . . . set trigger . . .

Another rifle I love is my Browning 1886 (I think that's right) High-Wall in .30-06. I just love breach loaders.

In fact I love most guns with wierd actions. Want to pick up a Biathlon Basic next.

M-1 Carbine, maybe because I know that's what my dad carried in WW2.
Marlin carbine (<16" barrel?) lever action in .44 mag. ' don't know why, but I like it. :)

I am drawn to Swedish M-96 Mausers like moths to a flame. Any swede is fine but the 96's... puredesimple gunlust.

When they were selling for $69 back in 87 I got kind of frantic and stupid for awhile.

It was heavenly.

M1A. Always seemed like the ultimate rifleman's rifle. And the sights are to die for.
