I just purchased a 12" LOP Hogue Stock for my Mossberg, and it's a bit shorter than I'd like. Does anyone know what the standard LOP is for the Hogue Stocks? Or will this simply be the standard length that Mossberg uses?

That's pretty short. Standard shotgun LOP runs from around 14" to 14.75". Mossberg, Remington, Beretta, Browning, Ruger, whatever. No manufacturer produces a standard 12" shotgun that isn't labeled "Youth" or "Ladies" or something similar.

But I'm not sure what you're asking.

I put the 12" on it for home defense. I wanted something more compact and faster to shoulder. I haven't tried shooting it yet, but it feels a little too short. I'm thinking that 13 or 13.5 inches would be about perfect.

I may have to call Hogue and see if they have spacers.

Does anyone know if you can get an R3 or Limbsaver for the Hogue stock?

13.75" on my old 1100 is short enough to have my trigger hand a lot closer to my face than I'd like. 12" might work with an AR-style pistol grip, but with a standard stock, I wouldn't want it.

A 12 inch LOP sounds like the youth model. I have installed the adult length on a Mossberg 500 and it measured a little over 14 inches for LOP.

The 12" LOP is generally marketed towards LEO for use with body armor. Also makes the gun more compact. I've been going back and forth between the standard and the 12" model and would have to agree that about 13" might be about right for HD.

I have 13" on my HD shotgun, feels great, and I can still shoot clays with it when I want to.

I tried one of the short lop Hogue stocks too, and found the same thing. Great on paper, crappy in practice. I found that it didn't make it that much more manuverable either, and the discomfort was certainly not worth the loss of only 2".

I have no idea why a 12" shotgun buttstock would look good on paper, unless one is wearing body armor or is very small.

You want your trigger hand to be at least far enough forward so as not to break your nose with your thumb knuckle when you fire the gun.:)

I think that, if you want to go shorter than 13", a pistol grip is probably mandatory (assuming you're average size, of course).

I love the 12 in on my 870, but I also have shorter than average arms. I actualy have a bit of trouble using a standard length stock.
