I am in Lawrence and we lack anything resembling a range (except for LEO), but I would be glad to drive out to KC to go shooting with fellow THR members some weekend. Anyone interested?

I would be interested.....
But just so you know, there is actually a range in Lawrence. It kinda sucks, (you have to shoot from 50' no +/- and the backstops like to send bullet fragments back at you) but so does driving to KC or Topeka every time you want to shoot. Here is the link for more info: http://gunclub.hostlss.net/

Sure, sounds good to me.
The Kansas City area has a few different ranges, a few popular ones include: The Bullet Hole, Crossfire, and one outdoor one called Lake City Shooting Range I believe. I've only been to the Lake City range, it is decent, they have a shotgun trap range, as well as a rifle/pistol range. I like it. I believe costs are close to $2 for the trap, and $3 for the range, which is very nice considering the other charge as much as $8! It's run by the Dept. of Conservation or the county I don't know. Um... They supply a few standard targets as a plus, but forbid any sillouette style targets of any kind. The target set-up is... 15 yards, 25 yards, 50 yards, 75 yards, and 100 yards, I think. Hunting season is approaching so it might be like pulling teeth with a monkey wrench to get a group of people in at any given time, but no worries there.
Just letting you know what I know about our ranges.

Little south of kcmo, make the drive to work every day though, why not for play.
Show off my mediocre pistol skills.

I am a member at crossfire, and shoot there almost every week. I also shoot long guns at lake city. Not a big fan of those guys, they stiffen up as soon as you take an AK or AR out of your bag, and strictly enfore a 5-second between shots rule. I've been to the bullethole too, but not for a couple years now.
They all get pretty busy on the weekends. I usually shoot during the week. Crossfire is closed only mondays and open 10-8 I think (maybe 10-7, shorter hours sunday too), lake city is open wednesday or thursday thru sunday, noon to 6 I think.
I'm pretty well known and friendly with all the staff at cossfire/armsmart, it's a great gun store/indoor pistol range combo run by a great bunch of guys and family owned, so anytime anyone wants to go, let me know. I'd be happy to meet a few others who shoot, I really don't have any gun-savy friends, other than the other crossfire regulars.

I had no idea about that range in Lawrence, I will have to check it out on Monday. Thanks for the info!
Anyway back on topic, I would like to go something this coming weekend (Oct. 3-5) but I am going to be gone the entire time training. Maybe the weekend after? Sunday afternoon/evening would be ideal for me, but I'm sure we can work something out so we can get a decent turn out if those times don't work for y'all.
I have an XD45, a 18" 870 and may have a Colt HBAR AR by then that I will be bringing, what about you guys?

No prob, Patterson. I don't get off work til 430 on Sun, but I can make it anytime after that.
I have an XD-40, an HK USPc .40s&w (that I'm thinking about trading if anybody is interested), and an STI Spartan
O, and unless things have changed, there is a mandatory safety session every Wed that starts at 6:45 / 7, and you can't shoot until you go through the safety course. So unless you just want to check it out, you may want to wait until Wed to go....

Have a CZ75b-SA. P-22. And an FEG-P9R, like a high power, kind of, with a slide mounted decocker. Having problems with extraction as of now though.

If your going to shoot at Crossfire, I'll show up and shoot. Weekends work best.
I don't have a CZ but I'll bring my old Hi-Power.

I just came across this thread - I live in KC so if there's interest in trying to organize another get together, I'd be interested.
For the OP, there's a cool range in Linwood, about halfway between Bonner Springs and Lawrence: http://www.tricountyrodandgun.com/
I don't know anything about membership etc. - I just attended one action pistol match there in August. It was nicely laid out though, and the match was a ton of fun. I plan to make it a regular thing next year if I'm able.

Crap, sorry guys. I had other stuff come up and I ended up not being able to have any weekends off for awhile. The weekend of Oct 31st I have off and will have money for ammo and gas if you all would still like to meet up in KC.
Kinda off topic, but I am trying to trade my XD.45 for a 1911, does anyone have any interest?

I live in lawrence but am in KC for the weekends. I would possibly be interested in meetin up around town depending on time and day. the bullet hole is my favorite pistol range around here. great guys, fairly relaxed range, they dont stand over your shoulder....unless you shoot faster than 1 shot per second. lotsa range room too. if we play our cards right, they might let us rent the bottom range so we dont have to be around everyone else. who knows, maybe one of the range officers is a highroader!

I live in the northland and make the trip to Lake City almost every weekend. It's been getting really really packed with deer season coming up. I waited an hour and 45 minutes last Saturday and I got there 10 minutes after they first opened. I would even be interested in private gun clubs if there are any in the area.
Also wanted to plug this website: www.kcguntrader.com It's a great resource for KC residents and they have a forum there as well.
I'm planning on going to the gun show in Topeka this weekend too. Anyone else?

I'm interested in getting together as well! I live in Grandview. I'd be interested in shooting rifle. I don't own any handguns right now. The conservation department ranges are both (Parkville and Lake City) probably busy right now.

If any of you want or have any black powder guns to shoot, you can use
our range located 17 miles east of Lee's Summit on 50 Hiway. I am retired
and can go anytime. Phil in Gladstone.

Thanks for the offer Phil! I just got done making sure my T/C Encore was still on zero a couple weeks back at Lake City. It takes quite a while to do that because I like to swab the barrel after every 2 shots just to make sure I'm as accurate as possible. By the time I do of that, I've gotten in like maybe 3 shots before they call cease fire. I'll definitely keep you in mind for the next time though.
Anyone know of any private gun clubs that have their own ranges?
