I want a Colt Delta Elite. Anyone own one? Would you recommend? I know the ammo is high as a cats back, but that's not a factor. I own 380, 9mm, 357mag, 357sig, 40cal, 45 cal and I want a 10mm and like 1911s. Anyone have a pic of theirs? Thanks.

Here is mine. Lots of work.

Colt showed a resurrection of the DE at SHOT 1 or 2 years ago. I don't think it is being made yet though, it was supposed to be out this year.

I wish it wish it would go into production soon, I want to buy a spare slide with the right roll marks on it.

Any news on the new delta elite? Did they change anything?

The new Delta that was at the shot show had a bull barrel and a FLGR. Other than that I believe it was the same as the old ones.

The new Colt Delta Elite was introduced at the 2008 SHOT show, with a bull barrel and FLGR. It should be out the end of the year.
I have an early Delta Gold Cup National Match 10mm.

If you can't wait, Dan Wesson Razorback is a quality alternative.

$893 at Buds.

I would way rather have the Colt than Dan Wesson even if I had to wait.

If anyone is really serious, I have a Stainless Delta Elite - N.I.B. that I would trade for the Razorback that CWL mentioned (FFL to FFL, etc.).

Serious replies only, PM me.

It seems to me that with the removal of the barrel bushing and the addition of the bull barrel on the new Delta, the Razorback is closer to the Colt original than the new Delta.

If I didn't have the Delta, I wouldn't have a problem buying a Dan Wesson Razorback for my 10mm fix.

I'd wait and see if the rerelease of the DE brings the prices down a tad.

That being said, I am a 10mm shooter (first auto pistol was 10mm in fact), and I thought I wanted a Delta. Got one, and couldn't stand it. I am stuck with the 10mm Witness I guess.

atblis - If your witness is as good as my two, they you are stuck with a winner!

I also had a Delta Elite. I have not owned a Dan Wesson. I have handled several Dan Wesson 1911's in 10mm. From my observations, I would say the Dan Wesson is a fine implementation of the 1911 design in a 10mm gun.

I do miss my Delta Elite, for nostalgic reasons.

Of my 10mms the Colt Delta Elite is my favorite. I'm a 1911 fan so the platform just works well for me.

I like the recoil of a 10 so it's not an issue for me; it is a bit more punchy than a .40 or .45. It can also really reach out and accurately touch some targets at ranges that are, at least to me, a bit surprising.

The attached photo is NOT my personal firearm - it's a stock photo pulled from the net.

If you can put your hands to one, I highly recommend picking it up. If you don't want it, let me know and I'd be happy to put in a bid or buy it outright: I think that much of the platform / caliber combination.

Have fun!

Any particular reason?

I like Colts better, I understand Dan Wesson makes a nice firearm but I prefer Colt.
For me that is the better choice.

From the DW's I've seen, they have a better fit and finish than the Colts.

But Colts do have the name.

Here's mine. Pristine, other than the ivory grips, and I like it that way since the 80s. One of my all-time favorites.

The 1911 in 10mm was my do everything pistol for seven years. I have owned 5 or 6 Deltas over the years. I now only own one and I will never sell or trade it. It was customized for IDPA/IPSC competetion, but I carry it when pig hunting with a rifle.

The Deltas are fine weapons but take some work ($) to get them just right (nice pistol Bob!) If I did not luck into the custom Delta I now have I would have kept a DW Razorback I once owned as opposed to a stock Delta.

Got a scare the other day when I was searching for 10mm ammo on the Georgia Arms sight and could only find the fmj load.Thought they may have quit making their excellent and affordable 155gr (1375fps) and 180gr (1150fps) Gold Dot loadings. After some more searching I found them and ordered a bunch of the 180gr for defense. For a hunting load I bite the bullet and buy Double Tap 200gr XTP's (1250 FPS). I know times are tough, but lets help keep these manufacturers in the 10mm business.

Colts are surviving on a lot of old reputations. I like the name, the tradition, but they have something wrong with their QC.

I've purchased 2 commander sized guns this year, a Colt Combat Commander in blued steel and a DW Bobtailed Commander.

QC on the Colt was marginal, not bad-enough that you could return it (rust on the bluing (I live in dry No. CA), the bushing was fit so badly there is a 2MM+gap from the slide, etc.) but I bought it for a custom build so I only want the "pony" on the side.

The DW was fit together as nicely & tightly as a Les Baer and is comparable in parts to the Ed Brown Kobra ($2400).

Aside from the "prancing pony" on the slide, a DW will do anything and more than a Colt nowadays, for less cash.

If I did not luck into the custom Delta I now have I would have kept a DW Razorback I once owned as opposed to a stock Delta. How so? I've never put a dime into my ($425 NIB) Delta Elite, other than changing grips and what I spent on ammo, and it's been perfect for almost 20 years.

"Just right" is a subjective term when it comes to firearms. A box stock 1911 can always be improved by a trigger job and in some instances a rear/front sight change. I freaking hate white dot sights. I prefer bo-mar adjustables on a pistol with so many bullet weights avaialble. A used Delta in good condition will run you an easy $750. Trigger job and new sights another $450. If you can live with out the little stallion medallion a Razorback or Kimber in 10mm is an excellent tool and option.

I lucked into this custom Delta several years back. The smith did a lot of mods, but chose to refit the stock barrel.

I really think you are paying for nostalgia with the Colts.

There is one for sale here:

I'm waiting for the new one this year as well. I've decided to add a 10mm to the collection and another colt to the stable. I just wish the new ones were all stainless. Looks to have a blued slide with stainless frame.

I've owned bot a Colt and Dan Wesson in .45 ACP.

While none of them ever had problems, I prefer a blued 1911 if
possible.

So, the original DE would suit me fine@ $800 or so..for one in good shape.

However,

IF Dan Wesson offer the new VALOR in 10mm, it would be the
cat's meoww in the minds of some people.

In reality, my 10mm Witness stoked with Double Tap Gold Dots serves me just fine.
