If you are looking at purchasing a basic no frills 870, ala Express model, have you checked one of your local Big Marts' ?

Usually these places will have the best deals going. You could also try local Pawn Shops. In which case you need to know a little about inspecting a shotgun to be sure it is serviceable.

BTW - Excelent choice on getting an 870.

I find that if you know how to look over and inspect firearms the best deals are at pawn shops. I just picked up an 870 for $230. Only thing wrong with it was a real small coat of rust. Obviously the rust is gone now and I'm a happy customer! Take your time and shop around. Look on gunbroker and you'll be surprised at some of the deals you will get.

Bought mine several years ago from Gander on 290. Only firearm I've bought there. Academys should have a pile of them. Bass Pro at Katy Mills too.

It'll be $50-100 more than at a big box and the salesmen will be offended if you refuse to look at the more expensive guns they try to sell you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about local gun shops - try Fountain or Tomball Pawn. But on a gun like this that can be found in stock everywhere, go for the best price, which will probably be at a big box.

A few weeks ago, Dicks was selling them for $240 with the Remington mail-in rebate.

The Remington rebate for $30 on a new 870 is good thru Dec31.

Look for Dicks, Academy Sports, and other big boxes to also discount their price in addition to the rebate. Got mine for $229 at Dicks (they matched the Academy price). I expect these deals will show up again before the end of the year.

Also, Midway is offering Mossberg's 18-1/2" barrel for the 870 for $92.

These 2 purchases make an affordable combo deal.
