Hola folks.

Back earlier this year I posted that I was interested in getting an AR. I was really interested in the Bushy Dissapator. Job situation quickly changed that. However, I'm thinking Christmas gift for myself.

So, I was out looking at Bushies online, and saw the modular carbine (http://bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/pcwvml16f.asp). Adding up the prices of the stock rifle, then all the bling-bling seperately, looks like a good deal with some auction prices I've found. This will be mostly a plinker/fun/very lite hunter type rifle.

Given that funding will be in place by purchase decision time, should I go all out on the first AR I get, or buy a stock model and accessorize later? Anyone bought this one, or assembled one to a similar configuration?

Thanks!

It's not worth $1600.

Get a base model and trick it out how you want it. You shoulve end up with optics, mounts and money left for ammo.

WOW that's expensive!!!

The BMAS float tube rails don't line up even with the flat-top rail either... I don't personally consider it a very high quality piece.

In fact, no offense to ANYONE who uses them, but I personally consider the Bushmaster "BMAS" line in general to be less desireable in feature and quality than a similar version of any given product from other companies.

Read that again before you get upset at me... Bushmaster RIFLES are top notch. My personal AR is a Bushy. But I have bought and then refunded or sold a few BMAS (made by Yankee Hill) pieces, and didn't like any of them. The detachable rear sight? Terrible thing that is too far forward for my tastes. Rather have a chopped carry handle or DPMS Detachable. The fold down rear??? AWEFUL and not nearly as good as an ARMS #40. I have heard good things about the front sight, but have no experience with that. And I've already mentioned the rail which, for the money, should be better than that. Quick tip, Fulton Armory sells the Carbine length C-More Scout rail for the same price as the Bushmaster BMAS rail, and it's a much better product.

You could build that rifle yourself for at least $400 less than BMAS wants, and maybe even $600.
