The sad state of our country's memorialist ways...

I realize that I may get flamed for this but, I feel that I must post this to comment on the commercialism of today. I do not intend this to be disrespectful, instead I intend it to show just how much disrespect is shown by some people in this country. The image shows just how commercialist some people can be in the name of "Patriotism."

:( :fire:
To me, this shows just how bad things have gotten and how truely commercialist everything has become. When things get this commercialist, it no longer signifies that we remember 9/11, but instead that we as a nation are short-term-memoried consumers who are willing to buy anything and sell out.

Well, you have a point; 9-11 should not become another hallmark holiday. I knew a guy who dropped out of college to reenlist in the army right after the attacks. Now THAT's patriotism.

The biggest problem in the memorialist ways of this country is the way we make every site a "memorial". The McDonald's in CA torn down to make a park, the Murrah Building site made into a park, and the current argument over whether to make the site of the WTC, or how much of it, into -- you guessed it -- a park.

The substitution of display for substance has long been an indicator of quality. I have no problem with those who produce and market the various doodads, only with the buyers.

I was gonna leave a comment but I'm hurrying out to post my Hallmark 911 Day cards during my lunch hour. :uhoh: :barf:

There is a lot of commercialism in the wake of the attacks, but IMO, I'd rather have this than what we had to deal with back in the late 60's and early 70's, when it was hard to find an American who actually had something good to say about our country.

We don't need another "Patriot's Day". July 4th is Patriot's Day. This 9/11 stuff sickens me. If people wanted to honor those dead, they would stop being sheep.

No, April 19 is Patriots Day (http://www.brassroots.org/library/patriots.htm).

You're right. Some people learn lessons, and some people seem to repeat them endlessly.
