One of these will be my next new pistol. I want to see which is the pic of the litter from my forums buddies.

You forgot one option: All of the Above.
:D
You really can't go wrong with any one of those.
I'd go with the Sig just because I don't have one yet.

I'm a HUGE HK USP fan (have 4 of'em) and recommend them everytime I get the opportunity. The Beretta 96 is the finest 40 S&W I ever owned (& I owned my share!). But, I'm not a 40 S&W fan so I've got to rule them out. That said, my favorite caliber is the 45 acp and although the SIG 220 I owned was a lemon, I'd recommend it in this case simply because of caliber. Now if you had the USP 45 on the list, it would be a no brainer ;)

I'm debating the HK and Sig my self.
Always liked the HK's but every I go to buy a new gun I come home with a Sig.....
So this time I'll start with wanting a Sig P220R in stainless and see what follows me home.

The .45 caliber SIG P220 will do anything
that the other's do; but it will do it better!

SIG P220 + .45ACP = The One True Sword, to borrow a phrase.

I am personally partial to .45, so from those choices I would say the P220 (have never had a bad experience with a Sig). But I am also partial to HK.....
A USP45 or USP45c would be my choices (since I have a USP45 I admit I am a little partial to that weapon).
But of course you have to take into account what you want to do with the weapon.......

I couldn't decide so I bought both. Each are first class but I would give
the slight edge to the 220.

P220; .45 ACP is a superior caliber to .40 S&W, and IMHO, the Sig is a little better than the HK, and much better than the Beretta.

I'm kinda surprised that the Sig is running away with this thing. That was not my prediction.
My thanks to everyone that has contributed so far.

I think it's a caliber thing more than anything else ;) Like I stated in my original post for this thread, I prefer the USP but not the 40 S&W :)

Thanks for letting me know. I think I'm going to hold out until next weekend. There is a Gunshow here next weekend. The same one that's at the Heymann Center over there every so often.

I voted for the SIG 220 but then I saw that the Beretta 96 had NO votes! The 220 is a great gun, one of the modern classics but the Beretta is a good gun too. I think the Beretta deserves at least ONE vote! Come on guys!:D

HK. I don't like the .40 round, but I dislike the controls on the SIG even more. SIG is a nive gun, but I like my controls consistent(1911 style).

I'd take the HK, but I own a USP .45 so I'm biased.
Main reason I like it better than the others is it's cocked & locked ability.
In the nightstand, long heavy double action first shot.
In the holster, cocked and locked.
Plus, it's the only handgun I've owned where the owners manual tells you to go ahead and carry it cocked and locked, and use +P+ ammo!!

Ergos ergos ergos. They're all great guns, but the only one that fits me worth a crap of them are the USPs. If you've narrowed it down to those I'd rent the ones I could and see how I liked them. If that's not an option I'd go for the best feel and controls.
That's just me though.

Having shot them all, I wished the USP had a slighly better trigger, I wish the 96 was more robust and I wish the 220 was steel. My choice is the USP, but I'd laugh all the way to the bank with good deal on one of the new stainless 220's. I like the safety on the USP and the fact that every one I was ever handled was both accurate and utterly dependable.
But that's buy what fits your hand and your budget. Good, slightly used USP's and 96's can be had for around $400.

My personal choice is a 9mm which I'd get in the Beretta 92FS or Brigadier, the Sig 226, or the Walther P99. If very fortunate to find it in an H&K, money and state permitting, I'd get that too. Given your caliber preference and choices above, I went with the Sig 220.

The 220 holds 8rnds in the mag.
The Berettta 96 holds 12rnds in preban mags. I would pick it over the 220 anyday.
I would pick the USP45F over the 220 as well. It holds 2 more rounds.

Both guns hold more rounds, but I would rather have 9 rounds of 230 grain JHP than 13 rounds of 180 grain JHP. If capacity is the key, then get a Glock 22. It can hold 15 + 1 in preban mode.

I think the SIG 220 is a fine gun, but I like the 12 round capacity of the HK USP 40. The HK also does a good job of taming the otherwise harsh recoil of the .40 auto round.
The Beretta is a good shooter, but the trigger pull is way too long for my hands.
