In my S&W 642 and 351PD and buying a EAA Witness P Compact in .45ACP.

Any thoughts?

Sell them outright as you most likely will more money for them that way. Don't expect much in a trade and one of those Smiths is probably worth more than the Witness.

+1 on what Majic said. The Witness is a good gun, I have a Polymer framed Compact .45 and love it. It's my primary CCW. But sell 1 of the Smiths, keep the other, then buy the Witness and a few boxes of ammo.

Thanks for the info. My fear of selling them outright is that some dope head will get their hands on them and kill someone. Then the Feds are knocking on my door.

tawcat,
That's easily solved but selling to someone who will agree to having a FFL do the transfer. When done in that manner the gun is no longer in your name and the FFL does a background check on the buyer so you know he's not a Felon. That should solve your concerns.

BTW, how do you know the person you are going to trade isn't a bad guy?

ArchAngelCD: I don't, but I have always traded at a local gunshop, so I figure their pretty safe.

Blasphemy; If you sell that 642 you will end up wanting another one and you will end up buying another one; which will end up costing you more money.

Yep you're probably right, maybe I can just find a good deal on a Witness P.

Well decided to keep the 642 and the 351PD; called my gun guy today and ordered a EAA Witness P Compact, $379, thought it was a good deal, should have it Thursday! Won't get to shoot it until week after next, but once I shoot I'll post my results and opinions.

Jim, thanks for that info. Shot it the other day and again had problems with FTF's. Not sure, but I will talk with my gun guy next week, really think I am going to sell my wheel guns!
