G3 / Cetme Scope rail question

I wonder if there are ways of mounting a picatinney or weaver type rail on the top of those clone rifles. Can I buy a straight rail somewhere and have it weld it on top? I heard that the original HK type mounts will slide due to the lack of saddle on the clone rifles. Thanks

You sure can. A guy going by the name "Vulcan Raven" over at www.hk91.com has apparently done this. He had his custom made, but I believe a "Badger Ordnance" also makes them.
Here's a direct link to Badger Ordnance:

Tapco (I believe) makes an adaptor that will fit on the claw mounts. B-square makes a mount with a rail as well, but it attaches just like the claw mount. I've never heard of a claw mount sliding off a clone though. As for welding, any competent gunsmith should be able to do it, especially on those thick SS receivers. I think there are even some CETMEs made with one from the factory

A guy over on gunboards used JB Weld :what: to fasten a rail on top of his CETME. (I think his screen name was "Teach")
He reported good results even under prolonged exposure to recoil. Yowza, not my cup of tea but certainly an interesting solution.

With enough JB Weld, duct tape and coat hangers, there ain't much you can't fix... :D

Tamara:
Bailing wire, not coat hangers. Even when using JBweld on a firearm, there are still some standards of decency.

I if works for farm machinery (I should know, my dad kept that stuff is a leather holster on his belt for around the farm) it should work on shotin' irons

HK mounts are rock solid. Some knockoffs are pretty rotten.
B&T makes some very low-profile mounts. A few over at www.hkpro.com have and like them very much.

Do you know if the B & T mount will fit a clone G3 type without the saddle mount? Where can I get the B & T mount? Thanks a lot!

Bringing this back from the dead....
edit: nevermind, answered most of my own questions. Is there a difference between picatinny and weaver mounts/rings? The picatinny rings seem to be a lot more expensive for some reason. Will weaver rings work on the tactical mount?
