Has anyone had success using Igman 150 grn Soft Point ammo hunting whitetail deer with their Garand?

All I've ever shot out of mine is 150 grn milsurp and Federal or Black Hills match loads.
It would be fun to take a deer with the old battle implement. Any other recommendations for store-bought Garand hunting ammo?

I guess whatever 150-grain softpoint ammo from Remchester or whomever that will group halfway decently in your rifle. Odds are, most any brand will shoot accurately enough to suit Bambi.
I guess you've read the stuff in various threads, here, about the Garand operating rod and pressure curves and all that. The thing is, the relatively few rounds of hunting ammo you'll shoot most likely will never hurt the op rod.

Remington CoreLokt will certainly work on deer. I'd stay with light bullets, 150 to 165 grains. They feed ok.
I have an extra gas plug with a 1/8" hole drilled in it. If I want to shoot hot loads or heavy bullets, I put that plug in. It releases the gas so the pressure on the op-rod is nil, the gun won't cycle by itself, it just turns into a straight-pull bolt-action. With that setup, I'd use 180gr or 200gr bullets and not worry about the gun.
Regards.
