Blackie Collins non-metallic folder?

Is the Blackie Collins non-metallic folder any good or will it just fall apart (it seems too inexpensive), and what kind of assisted opening mechanism does it employ?
I don’t really have any use for it, but it’s interesting none the less, being the only non metallic folder (that I know of).
Thanks. :)

They are JUNK.
Pass unless you don't mind wasting the funds.... of course they are cheap.

I'm not sure I'd call them junk because they're not intended to be anything other than an interesting gizmo. Blackie never intended them to be a serious knife, just an exercise in creativity and a way to thumb his nose at the busy bodies. That's part of why they're so cheap.

HSO, I agree with you to a point.
BUT I think the original poster was asking if they were any good for carry/use... I will stick to my original opinion for that use.

I always have a few for the x-mas stockings, the Blade itself is fairly useless, SOFT material that bends back and forth by hand, Almost impossible to sharpen (Nail file works best :-) the Handle itself it of stouter compostion, nice spring assited opening feature (although I dont care for AO knives myself) Still smooooth action for the $ IMO. Not totally NM since copper and Berillium are used in the springs and washers........Still kind of neat, and never fails to bring a smile to those faces that recieve them

Saw these a long time back. People think they will go through metal detectors. But these will set off metal detectors. So don't do anything like take it on a plane.
Non magnetic is for EOD guys. Big anti tank mines use magnets to set them off, so they only go off when a large metal object is over them, not pressure like small mines. But for safety concerns, they carry no magnetic objects when clearing them. Just in case one is a little more sensitive. A few pounds of c-4... yeah don't want to chance that. ( this is off the top of my head, so take it as internet knowledge )

I don't care much for this design, but I always thought that a non-metallic version of the Opinel would be a pretty neat & practical knife to have....esp. with a ceramic blade and polymer grip & parts....

If you really feel the need for a non-metallic knife I think you'd be better suited by one of cold steel's 'nightshade' products. They have a video of a guy hammering the taipan nightshade model through a nice big piece of wood.
I bought the larger push blade model to prove to a friend that the concept of a push knife was valid. I padded the thing with some foam and duct tape and we did a little fight with him yielding another rubber knife I had and I think he was surprised by the effectiveness of it in the hands of someone with zero knife fighting experience or training(me).
But anyways the nightshade knife I had was tough enough and worked but its a silly concept unless you plan on trying to sneak them through metal detectors(which is a pretty bad idea anyways).

How do you figure these would set off a metal detector? Is there some advanced model that tries to scan for lumps of dense material or something? Just seems impossible.

I was involved in test of the entire nightshade line, also have the russian test done by a state agency for possible use of these weapons(crazy, I know) and IMO and with all due respect....

...You could have stabbed your pal very easy with your above described set up.;)
