It's a beautiful early fall day here, just like it was two years ago. I've turned the TV off because, like the airplanes, the news just hits too close to home. And I'm wondering what to do to mark the day.

So what are you doing, if anything?

Set my flag to half-staff today, and I will be NOT watching TV tonight. Will watch episode 9 from Band of Brothers (Why We Fight) to remind me of the price of freedom, and how much higher a price you pay NOT to guard liberty.

Pretty much the same as you guys. I'm specifically avoiding all mass media today. I remember just fine without mawkish "rememberances" being ostentatiously forced down my throat. It all seems to take away the dignity of what should be a quiet, solemn occasion.

I said a prayer at 8:46 a.m. EST, I'm wearing gray pants and a black shirt (somber colors), and I put the flag out as usual this monring. And I'm watching all the media and reading all the news reports I can about the second year anniversary. Why the blackout? I'm interested in what relatives of the victims have to say, and what progress we've made in the never-ending fight against terrorism.

Yes, the same thing I did on the last 2 9/11s. Went out back and fired 10 rounds in the direction of Mecca. (With a suitable safe backstop.)
This will be my annual way of marking the day forever.:fire:

I commemorated the event by being in the same place I was when the planes hit the buildings -- in bed asleep. Not much into symbolism over substance.

Comiserated with the guy from my gaming group whose daughter was in the second tower.

(He's doing better emotionally, and is drinking a lot less, which is a really good thing.)

Today I reflected on 9/11, American, my neighbors, and life.
Specific things/actions I did:

1) Donated blood today

2) Gave $20 to the Sheriff's Rescue Squad

3) Took a walk in public park/rose garden with others

4) Mailed a thank you card to a U.S.M.C. private

5) Said a prayer at my Catholic church

6) Waved at a cop today (they waved back)

7) Flew Old Glory

8) Took a nephew to the shooting range

- the local volunteer FD where I've been a member for five years: we had another hazardous materials class this evening. Ran the pump on the truck during practice with propane leaks. Did some other practical exercises after that. Was where I belonged.

TexVet, that sounds like a good idea. Mind if I use more than 10 rounds?

No TV for me today.

I guess better late than never....I put on my TV, watched the memorials, bawled my eyes out....went to my puter, cranked up all the music I had downloaded the weeks following 9/11/01...cried some more...went to work decked out in Red, White, And blue....and watched a memorial taken place across the street from me. I reflected on the lives that were lost and was happy to be alive!
