I can only have one at this time, not both. Which one for CCW?

I want both for different reason, but not sure which to get first. What would you get first?

I would say the 442 is easier to conceal. Im sure there will be some others who beg to differ though. I have a SW MP340 same size as 442 just a little lighter.

They really serve different purposes. The M&P is a compact belt gun, the 442 a hideout/backup gun, more suitable for pocket, ankle or other unconventional carries. Which purpose do you want it to serve?

Thats a good point Haranguer, I find it acceptable to have 5 rounds others may not.

Agree with Haranguer. I can drop a hammerless .38 in a pocket, any auto over a mini .32 or micro .380 needs a holster. How will you wear a gun the most? How much actual shooting will you do? An Airweight is not much fun.

If it's going to be your only handgun, or only carry gun, I'd go with the M&P.

That being said, the 642 is the gun I have on me at all times.

Just like I thought BOTH is the answer

Recoil is completely different between everyone. The recoil of my J-frame doesn't bother me and I normally shoot about 100 rounds of .38 and 20 rounds of .38+P per range session; so I find it fun to shoot. Yes, definitely get both. But winter is coming up and I would get the one you plan to carry more in the winter. Also you could think about getting the J-Frame and use it as a pocket gun in the summer then put a full size grip on it and use it on the belt in winter. I find mine perfectly comfortable in the pocket or on the belt; both with the small grip. I will normally pocket with kakhi pants and belt with jeans.

If you will belt carry, get the M&P.
If you ever need to pocket carry, get the 442.
I have a j-frame in my pocket any time I wear pants. I'd rather have the M&P on me, but I don't have the belt option all the time. I can always pocket carry, so its a j-frame for me (mine is a bobbed 37-2 instead of a 442).

Do you currently have any handguns for CCW purposes?

I actually have both of them, and as many have already mentioned, which one to buy now will depend on what your needs are and how you plan to use it.

I'd say that unless you are in a warm climate that you should go with the M&P9c now as you'll be able to conceal it under heavier clothing. As it begins to warm up again you can look at the 442.

I live in a warm climate & the full size M&P is just a little much for every day carry. It works, but I have to watch the handle. I think the 9c will be perfect for the belt. However I am leaning to the 442 at this time. It may be able to go more places with me.

I have a 442 and can vouch for the concealability. It is a great little gun. I like it so much I have a 642 too.
