Probably not going to get a refund from the shop, but I've heard good things about S&W and their warranty service.

But if you're using it for a carry piece, it's going to look a lot worse within a month or two after carry and range time. The finish really takes a beating on that model. Reliable little gun though, hope it works well for you.

thank you for your opinion but what happen to quality control? im saving this because smith& wesson has the internal locks now its going to be rare.im just going to use this as a carrying gun.

Are you sure the scratch was there when it left the factory or could it have happened afterwards?

Ship it back to S&W by legal means (unloaded, without ammo). You may need to contact them first to get a Return Authorization.

I'm certain if you ship back a just-purchased revolver that has a scratch on the end of the muzzle, they will make it right. I would want it fixed if it were my gun, especially if the scratch goes into the rifling at all, as it could affect how the gun shoots.

The down side is you may be without your new piece for some time.

You need to weigh out for yourself how much the scratch bothers you and if you think it's worth being without the gun for a little while.

If it were mine, I would not hesitate to ship it back, especially if it is something I plan on keeping a lifetime (which all of my firearms are).

T'were me I'd probably put a matching scratch on the other side of the muzzle and be done with it.

Or, that part of it is stainless, right? Scotchbrite it out.

I can tend toward obsessive myself so I've forced a rule down my own throat - if I didn't notice it at the store, it's OK. If you only noticed it after you cleaned it and were giving it the hairy eyeball of ultimate inspection, it's probably not something most folks would notice and point fingers.

Unless you bought it to sell in which case you're already screwed - they made 5000 of those things and I'd bet a donut the no lock will never be more than a 10% bump - forum populations are a poor indicator of the buying public. If you bought it to use and carry it should be fine.
