I will have to beagle a mold and am in need of some of the aluminum tape in .001", .002", & .005". If anyone has a roll and would be willing to let a couple of inches go, I would be most grateful and could send some brass or cash, or ....... I'm thinking the .002" will do, but it would be nice to have some of each on hand just in case, maybe the next mold will need it? Also if someone else needs some I could pass some on and help them out. I just hate to locate some locally and buy a whole roll just for a few inches.

TIA,
Mike

I think "beagling" a mold is a bad idea. You can't help but end up with oval or oblong boolits. So therefore, I don't have any al. tape.

What is "beagle a mold"?

I am with snuffy though, it doesn't sound good. I do have some aluminum tape if you are absolutely set on this.

Beagling the mold? Why didn't you say "shim out" the mold? Learn something new every day...

I don't have a clue on "beagling" but it seems to me you can get aluminum tape at any furnace supply house, or a local Lowes/Home Depot store.

I didn't name it:neener:, I would have called it shimming, but when you are the "first" to do it, you get to name it. :)

Even elliptical bullets are rounded during the sizing process, I don't see how is "beagling" process can fix an undersize bullet. An oval-shaped bullet is still undersided at some degree, UNLESS you completely swage the bullet in the sizing die. You said your "Tumble Lubing" the bullets, so without a sizing die, you will end up with oval shaped, oversided bullet.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=391990 You should try your reloads in a different 9mm gun.

From what I gather, beageling a mold will still produce a round bullet unless you try to go .003" or larger, then it will be out of round. I have polished the mold and the bullets drop out better, it just needs to have a slightly larger diameter.

I fired a few out of a friends Sig 226 Elite and leadded it up just the same as mine. I will not be doing that again with someone's $1000.00 gun:banghead:, so I will have to stick with mine and make the bullets work in it. I have tried 3 different compositions of lead(haven't fired the newest yet) with the same results. That is the fun of reloading and casting, tailoring the load/round to fit your gun. I'm up for the task, just budget challenged right now.

What alloy are you using? What load? What is the bullet diameter as cast now? I somehow doubt that bullet diameter is the problem.

The lead is 10lbs WW, 4lbs lino, and 1/2lb tin. All wieghts close using a bathroom scale:uhoh:. Using once fired asst(I know:fire:) brass and 4.5gr bullseye over a CCI 500 primer. Fired out of an Astra A-100 9mm. Bullets drop out at .356".

I would say it is too hard for your application. Save that Linotype for when you really need it.

Cast some out of wheelweights with maybe 3 to 4 percent tin just because it helps to fill out the mold better and make pretty bullets, and see how that does. What bullet weight, or did I miss it.

The assorted brass in not the problem, don't fret about that.

The mould is a Lee 124TC TL, and the bullets drop at around 122-123gr. Close enough for me. I added the lino to see if the bullets would drop a little larger diameter, but didn't notice enough difference to warrant using my lino, so it will be back to straight WW's for the 9. I will use the WW/lino in the 357.
