I have a 870 Wing Master with a 30" barrel and I would like to put a 18" barrel on it for home defense. Will the standard 870 barrel work? The only size I can find marked Wing Master are 26" and 30". I would like to purchase a new barrel rather than another shotgun. Your input would be most helpful. Thanks

Mossberg makes a barrel for it that's even cheaper.

There are 870 barrels available online from 18" to 30". Any of the replacement barrels at Cabela's (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=SEARCH_all&id=0005760212137a&navCount=2&podId=0005760&parentId=&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=XJ&rid=&parentType=&indexId=cat602739&hasJS=true) should fit.

You have a few options. The cheapest is a 18.5" Express barrel but the finish won't match. You can get a 20" blued wingmaster barrel with rifle sights. There is also a 18.5" Police barrel but they are hard to find.

That 18 1/2 inch blued Mossberg 870 barrel looks pretty good on a wingmaster. Way better then an express barrel.

I happen to have put that 18 1/2 inch Mossberg barrel on a used Wingmaster for HD a few months back; fit like a dream, uses the ball lock. Found the barrel in the bargain bin of Cabelas for $50

Mossberg got smart and started making replacement barrels for Remy guns. They fit and work just like the factory barrels made by Remmy, but they are generally less expensive. You are NOT buying a barel made for a mossberg and putting it on a remington, you are buying a mossberg barrel thats made FOR a remmy...so you are safe. They are good quality and I am planning on getting an 18" Mossy barrel to go on my current project 870. Midway sells the 18" mossberg barrel for $99 and thats about $30 cheaper then the same version made by Remington!

"Wingmaster" means that your gun has a shiny blued finish rather than a dull parkerized finish. Any finish will work, its whatever you are happy with. The Mossberg barrel in blue will look great on your gun. The great thing is that it takes about 30 secs to swap barrels so you can use one shotgun for bird hunting and home defense simply by switching barrels.

This is all true as long as your Wingmaster is a 12 gauge. Mine's a 20 gauge and things are a little more complex.

Thanks for all your help I purchased one from Havlin Sales today. It has the rifle sights but for 89 buxs I can live with em.
