So I'm picking up ~1000 cases of once fired Federal Gold Medal Match once fired sometime next week. From what I've read through the search function, the primer pockets on this brass fail easily and will result in loose primers after 1-2 firings.

Once I've worked up a nice accurate load I intend to make ~600 rounds of high quality ammo (~40-43 gr varget, CCI #34, 150 gr Hornady SST Interlocks), seal the primers and bullets and squirrel it way for a rainy day. (I'm replacing several sealed battle packs of 30 year old ammo with this stuff)

How well will FGMM serve for this purpose? I understand that the factory loaded ammo is some of the very best available so logically this must mean that the tolerances on the brass are pretty precise, regardless of it's reloading longevity.

I'd replace these in another 20 yrs. But before I do that, I'd fire a random 1% of them. If they go bang and are accurate enough, I'll keep them and repeat the random test in another ten years.

In 1990, some shooters at my range were firing 1942 headstamped .45 acp with no apparent problems. I also bought surplus shotgun primers of the same vintage, which I had to remove from the paperhulled shells. No problemo.

I'd prefer a hunting bullet to ball. If I need penetration there's always 163 AP in my .300 Wby :D

I suspect I can also greatly improve on the accuracy of my handloads compared to military fodder.
