Savage Model 16

A bit over a month ago I asked if anyone had any experience or opinions with the Savage Model 16, a Stainless Steel bolt action .223. I received no responses but decided to pick it up anyways. The pic below shows my first five shots at 50 yards off a bench. The shot at 11 o'clock was not exactly a called flyer, but I knew when I shot that it was going off to the left. The other four shots are a .75" spread. The rounds were Georgia Arms 68 grain BTHP match rounds.
I think this is a keeper.

Wish I had a better pic. I'll work on my photographic techniques.

Word of advice, get smaller targets, you'll find you can shoot better "aiming small".
It sounds strange, but holding your crosshairs on a 1 inch or 1/2 inch bullseye at 100 yards should shrink your group.

I appreciate the advice, I am sure you are correct. The target I used was my standard 100/200 yard (for the FEW times I can get to 200 yards) rifle target I use for my iron sight hi-power rifles. I have some much smaller targets that I can set up to work on my accuracy.
Thanks.

Even if its a standard target like the orange diamond shaped ones everyone uses to sight in for deer season. the main point is you have a bullseye that is a 1/2 inch diamond, put your scope to cut that smaller shape into 4 parts, then squeeze. Adjust your point of impact from there.
I've found I can get .5 inch groups at 100 yards from my Savage 116/30-06 using this method.
Your ammo is probably fine, but try a group with federal premium match grade ammo as well.
Your Savage has a 1-9 twist barrel so it can handle the heavier .223 bullets (the 112 bvss is one I looked at hard).
Also, you have a stainless bolt rifle with a skinny barrel. Fire three and let it cool down. Fire another three.
