Does anyone (Eagle??) make a drag bag for rifles with a length of 42"? I believe the ones out there are for those rifles with an OAL of almost 50"....

Skunky,

Several weeks ago, someone posted a picture and link to the Sportmans guide web page showing a bag of sorts that was USGI, and only $9 IIRC.

Looked like it could be made to fit your needs. But I can't find the link or the product on their page.

Blackhawk Industries makes a few different models of drag bag. Several of them are sized for 42" rifles.

I have one of these:

It fits my M1A perfectly. Very rugged and well built, and it's padded to serve as a shooting mat.

Glockster, you mean this:

I have one of those - it's pretty useful for toting around a longarm or what have you, and it converts to a shooting mat at the range too. It's made of really thick cotton duck and has felt inside to cradle your gun. You probably could drag it around all day and not hurt it. Pretty decent for a tenner.

Kevlarman,

Yep, that's the one. It says 39x22 closed, but can it be secured a bit larger?

Yes it can. The only thing limiting you from securing it to the size you want is the length of the straps. In the picture, the guy is wearing it like a backpack and it has a round shape to it. With a rifle in it, the round shape turns into a large rectangle.

The parachutist's weapons case can hold a lot of kit. It is pretty heavy and there are no straps on the inside to hold things in place. I have a couple of them. They make nice shooting mats and work for their intended purpose, but I think it would take a lot of sewing with a pretty heavy duty machine to make a good drag bag out of one.

Skunk, you might look for the parachutist's rifle case. They run about 30 bucks when you can find them and are a better platform for a drag bage then the weapons case which is designed to jump things like the M249....

Look! Pictures!
I think the weapons case is good for hauling around your gear, but the gun is probably better off in the rifle case (more padding and less chance of it falling out).

I was lucky enough to find the rifle case on eBay for $1 (plus $10 shipping).

So these parachute baggies don't have padding?

Not as such, no. But trust, me, the felt and outer covering are really really thick!
