Greetings friends, new member Mousiecat here. I'm duplicating this thread here at gunsmithing because I'm told that this is a more likely place to dig up some info. I got a problem and here it is:

I Just bought an Enfield Mk IV, No. 1 conversion to 45-70 and it appears to be a very nice job. Seller said that it had some feeding problems and might need some work on the magazine. That was a slight understatement as the magazine is totally unmodified. So, here is my specific starter problem that I'm throwing out to the group. I need:

1. A fully modified conversion magazine ready to start shootin'.

2. Plans or directions to enable me to do the modifications.

3. An expert who knows this subject and can shed a little more light.

That's about it for now. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Emails are most welcome. Love to talk about conversions as I also have a Siamese Mauser that I want to convert to a 45-70 or perhaps a 45-90 if there's room. So long for now, Mousiecat.

Found I was going to have to open the action right behind the barrel, to get the 45-70 rim thru it. So I backed up to a 444 same rim as the 303, I found a single stack 410 ga mag, had a chance to work and also that for flat nose bullets the bottom of the breach end of the barrel was going to need the rounded off so the flat nose would not catch on the rim cut.

Anyway before I got past the point of figuring out how to join a 410 mag into an Enfield mag for positive feeding some one offerred me more then I had in the project for everything but the action and barrel, so it is shelved.

If the shells are not jumping out of the mag in funny ways, it may be that you need to round edges on the rim cut and breach end of the barrel,

I have also found were war time 8MM Mausers, to feed round nose bullets need the edges of the breach rounded also. It doesn't show up with a pointed bullet but some are sharp enough to cut into a round nose and jam things up tight.
