I have tried about every type of folding knife made as an edc I just keep coming back to a swiss army knife. I carried a tinker for many years along with what ever other knife I was carrying (I always have 2 knives)my tinker was showing use so It was replaced an Adventurer and I now carry a Bantam as a second knife.
Who else packs a sak and which one is your flavor:)

I carry an EKA Executive Major.

Mine, but the color's messed up.
http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=85777&d=1223092633

It's made by Wenger (Switzerland), with bubinga wood handles added by EKA (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and sold/warrantied by EKA under the "Executive Major" name.

It looks a lot like the Wenger Traveler, but with wooden handles.

Interestingly, it doesn't seem to be in their current product list, but can be found in the PDF catalog.

Very handy. I use the scissors as much as anything else.

Not mine, but the color is right in this one.

I usually EDC either a Vic Spartan or Wenger Standard Issue. In the woods, a Vic Camper. Oh, and, I keep an alox classic sd on my keychain. Sometimes, I carry a Swisstool Spirit (not really an SAK, but...)

Great knives, I have a "Centurion" for camping (belt sheath), "Recruit" for everyday, and a "Classic" for when I am dressed up (Sunday).

Every day I carry a Vic SpartanLite or an aluminum scaled Farmer, depending on whether I foresee the need for a corkscrew.

They're also the loaners for sheeple instead of my full size EDC.

I used to carry the corkscrew one but now carry the model with the Phillips screwdriver in place of the corkscrew. Don't know what model it is but it's always on me!

I travel a lot on business. I hate it because I'm away from my sharp pointy things but I do what I gotta do.

When traveling I use a Wenger SI. Easily replaced if ever the Baggage Gnomes decide to abscond with it while my bags are being kicked/dragged/thrown/lost between check-in, the plane, and the "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" baggage claim.

Still hard to beat a SAK for the money.

Got my first sak in 1968, and have been hooked ever since. Mt first sak was a huntsman, and I carried it for about 10 years. Then I went for a tinker, and that went for several years. A Wenger SI has been around as an edc till about a year ago, when I discovered the bantam. I have come to love the minimalist bantam. Slim single layer, a blade to cut with, and a combo tool that really does replace two tools in one blow. I just may try the alox bantam.

Also as a second knife, I've had a classic on my keyring for about 10 years. I used to disdain the little classic, but my better half showed me the light. It all started when her company bought a bunch of them to put thier logo on and of course she put one on her keychain.

Over the course of the next year, I watched in horror as she put that knife to tasks that I would have hesitated to use my tinker for, and it survived. Then I did an experiment, I put one on my keyring, and when a pocket knife chore came up, I made myself reach first for the classic to see if I could get it done with the little thing. For 99% of what I needed a pocket knife for, the classic did just fine. Only short commings were with food stuff and the blade being just too small, and whittling or woodcrafts around camp, it was just too small a grip to cut through wood. So now I've come from a tinker or Wenger SI with my classic on keyring as a team, to a bantam and classic teamed up.

I love sak's, and they just make sense. The tools really work, and I've fixed things ranging from a ceiling fan in the bathroom to a '66 BMW R60's ignition plate with a sak.

Whatever other knife I will be carrying for the heck of it, there will ALWAYS be a sak on me someplace. Like the credit card, I just don't leave home without it!

Thats my story, and I'm stickin to it!:)

I hear a lot of people say they use the scissors all the time I have a leatherman micra that I never use and have had saks with them.I haven't found anything that the scissors will do that a knife blade won't do just as good or better

I carry a Victorinox Cadet (http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Pocket-Silver-Ribbed/dp/B0007QCOEC/ref=pd_sim_hi_2) in my backpocket because it's so thin. In a front pocket I've got a Buck Stryder Tarani locking folder.

If I only carry one knife it's a Victorinox One Handed Trekker (http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-One-Hand-Trekker-Lockblade-Pocket/dp/B000687B44/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1223094616&sr=1-1).

Count me in. Vic Hiker or Vic Fieldmaster.

Ive stopped carrying my other edc blades -- my spyderco endura 4 and native I. Occasionally I'll carry the TDI. For the most part, however, I slip a SAK in my pocket along with a light, lighter, my wallet and keys.

I started out carrying a Tinker years ago. It has been replaced several times. I carry the Adventurer now. I have a number of different SAK models, but prefer the Adventurer most of all for EDC.

Of the heavy thick ones, I like the Locksmith. It does not get carried much since it is too heavy and thck for pocket carry. It would be a useful survival knife.

Love them!

Always have a Classic on my keyring and regularly carry a Vic Soldier. Huntsman and Climber also get some pocket time. Even got my wife carrying a Classic now. :D

Ya know, theres one thing about a sak that no other knife has; it appeals to even non knife knuts.

Several years ago, I gave out classics as stocking stuffers to all the non knife people in my family. One reason is I was getting a little tired of being the only knife carrier around, and having to do everyone else's cutting chores. So everyone got a little classic.

It went over way bigger than I had ever thought it would, even with the women in the family. Everyone put it on thier keyrings, and to this day they all take out thier little Vic classic when they have to cut something. I think for the women, the nailfile and little sissors put it over the top. Even our very elderly Aunt Jane won't do without her classic. One of our younger teenage nieces turned into a sak collector, collecting all the different color classics to use as fashion accsesories for her punk wardrobe.

Since then, I've introduced more non knife people to the world of knife carrying folk via the little classic. They are intrigued by a tiny tool with a cutting blade, sissors, nailfile with small screwdriver that handles small phillips, tweezers, and toothpick. They don't seem to think of it as a "knife". One relitive who is a computer guy, uses the nailfile screwdriver tip and plastic toothpick to work on computers.

Sak's seem to have universal appeal, exept in England.

Where did you find that Kydex sheath for your Trekker?

That looks like a great way to carry!

Thanks

Carl I wouldnt be to sure of that I know of lots of people who actually carry a sak here in britain everyday, I think they are the most common pen knife you can find round here though places round my way that carry a good collection of them tend to be the 2 hiking/camping shops or the local firearms/hunting/fishing shop. Think a bonus with a swiss army knife in red is everyone reconises them and tend to be less frigtened of them, ive know some people who were shocked when I carried a cheap pen knife on me which looked very traditional, but if its my sak then its normall all most. Just the sheeple tend to be scared of pointy things :D Irwin.

I EDC a Victorinox explorer in my backpack. Honestly, it may never have been used once since the day it was given to me by my grandfather years ago. It's a bit clumsy for pocket carry but the weight goes unnoticed in the front pocket of my surplus swiss alpine rucksack.

"Hey Plateshooter,

Hi Mongrel;

I have a little Kydex shop where I do some custom stuff for people. I love playing with Kydex so everything around here has a pouch, holster, or sheath.

My tinker is retired to house duty I went to an Adventurer about 2 months a go.It is just a little longer than a tinker it replaces the two blades of the tinker with one longer locking blade, the rest of the tools are the same. like I said in the first post I all ways carry two knives and the vic bantam is growing on me

This is my third one. First one both plastic panels fell off, second one the lanyard hold broke off when I dropped it and my current one has olive green anodized panels that probably will never fall off. If they do I will either live with it or buy another. Love the SAK's.

A SAK is my only true EDC- on my keyring. Either a blue alox Classic on the weekends or a Wenger Air Traveler on schooldays. I also have a Swisscard, sans knife, in my back pocket, by the bandana. I have it there mainly for the 4-way screwdriver and the light, although the pen comes in handy too.
The Explorer lives on my desk, and is used for chroes around the house. The Recruit and Wenger Canyon and Electrician Plus all find their way into the carry rotation sometimes. The Recruit was my first, has a certain nostalgia, so I mainly carry the Canyon over it. The Canyon was the knife that I had when I went to Switzerland, and it served me well, and continues to do so. It's a well-designed piece of hardware.
The main carry pieces these days are the Victorinox Helmsman and the Wenger 55. They're big, and not red, but they handle heavy duty cutting well and carry pretty well on the belt.
My only other SAK is a Pocket Pal, which is actually an Eisenhower style penknife. Sharp, slim little bugger, that goes with me places when anything bigger would be innapropriate.
I also have a Leatherman Kick that I carry from time to time. Not technically an SAK, but still dead useful.

Man, who doesn't love SAK's? I would venture to guess that even the kids of today are as taken by the gadgetry and the bright red handles as most of us were when we were kids.

That being said, I currently don't even own a SAK. I love them and have lost a couple over the years, but I just haven't found the exact right one that I want yet. I like the new Soldier models (though I wish they had a pocket-clip), as they have about the exact right tools that I want on a daily basis. I suspect I will be buying one of those soon. Evidently, the German Army is already using this knife, and for no good reason, that is the one that I want. I think the knife is pretty much the same as the Trekker.

http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-One-Hand-Trekker-German-Multi-Tool/dp/B001B197RE/ref=pd_sim_sg_68

Still, my heart yearns for a red-handled, bigger than is practical, multi-tooled SAK. I don't really need one, but owning one would fulfill at least one dream from childhood. Since I don't think I will be able to fly or shoot webs from my wrists anytime soon, it's going to have to do...

out there who could reproduce a reasonable facsimile of the SAK but in a slightly larger version with heavier blade/tool stock and no :cuss: aluminum spacers. Maybe in 154CM or some other whiz-bang steel with G10 handle scales or some such material with a bit more durability than the plastic used by Victorinox or Wenger.

It depends on which one I am closest to when I get dressed. I have the harvester, trekker, soldier (rides in my SOG Seal Pup Elite side pocket) and a swiss spirit multi tool that is always in my truck. I got my first SAK about 10 years ago and I just keep finding reasons to get another one.
