comming off shoulder surgery, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on The gel-tek butt pads from Beretta. Do these things really help that much with recoil.

My Beretta White Onyx Sporter came with two. It wears a Limbsaver now.

Sorry, not very good, those Gel Teks....

Sims, KickEez and the venerable Decellerator are the best I've tried....

Go with Dave's advice. I dumped the gel tek on mine and replaced with a Limbsaver.

To save my creaky old shoulder, this is what works for me:
1. Good recoil pad, of course, Limbsaver or similar.
2. Shoulder pad of some sort, the kind that's attached by straps, the thicker the better. By itself it's not all that great, but :
3. Thick gel material from a computer keyboard wrist support. Not the foam ones, but the squishy gel version.
I cut one of these up in a suitable size and wrapped it in cloth. It fits nicely under the strapped on shoulder pad (or anything else that could hold it in place).
Homemade for sure, but it works very well. No pain even with rapid firing from a 12 gauge.
Hope this helps.

I've got one on my AL390 and really like it. I'm sure there are other systems/pads that reduce felt recoil more, but I really like that the size and thickness of the gel-tek is the same as the steel buttplate I pulled off of the stock.

Limbsaver, or other modern sorbothane pad is the way to go.

I have geltek's on most of my Beretta's-
I'd never even think about using one on a 7mm mag or up.
They are excellent on the shotguns - no sticky grab for fast wing shooting, but I fail to see the true usefulness on anything like, say, a 12 3.5" shell or a 10ga turkey load.
Maybe if I said I use a R3 pad on my 375 ultramag........
