Red dots are fast & fun! I've got an Aimpoint on my 16" upper.

Texas Gunman, do you have a problem with using the red dot?
I ask because my sight alignment with the iron sights is just perfect stock, with the red dot it is (I'll guess here) about 1 to 1 1/4" higher.
Do you find yourself straining to see over the rear?

Thanks RTFM.

I tried a ~30mm BSA on top of one of my 20" A2s. That thing was higher up than the top of the Washington Monument! I had more of a jaw rest than a cheek weld when trying to shoulder it at home, so I never bothered to take it to the range and removed it (also the red dot caused the rifle to take up three spaces in my safe, rather than two, so it had to go when I got another rifle). Now I'm thinking about getting a gooseneck mount from Cavalry Arms or something similiar and trying again.

It was also a cheap-o mount (Oly Arms?), which didnt have the hole for the iron sights low enough, so it was very hard to focus on the front sight while trying to look through the rear sight, my sight picture kept shifting to use the tunnel in the scope mount as the rear sight instead of the sight itself.

Goosenecks look like this, and are supposed to make it so you can use both the irons and the scope without a change in cheek weld:

Red dot's are fast and fun!

The problem with mine is that mounted above the A2 handle, I don't get a cheek weld, and accuracy goes down. Thus, I use the RedDot for fast action/plinking, etc, and the iron sights for precision.

A few weekends ago, during an informal tincan shooting contest @ 25 yards, I basically swept the bench, 1 shot per can, using the red dot and rapid fire. My friends looked at me and said, "OK! You win! You Win!, now put that away and use a pistol like everyone else!" :neener: :neener:

I shorten the scope mount some, kinda like it better now, the weaver rail mount is shaped like a "U"(horse shoe like) the scope rings mount on top, it leave a clear view of the iron sights, also it doesn't have what called tunnel vision effect, I like being able to use my iron sights, the red dot sight works great, but never tried shooting past 100 yards with it, it more or less a close quarter optic, I usually switch to a millett scope for long range or just use my A2 iron sights.
