I'm just trying to get ideas for my AK. I just bought a new grip and sling so I'm just interested in what everyone else's AK looks like. Thanks!

^ looks similar to mine. I just bought a wooden grip to replace that one though, just have a thing for wooden aks. I'm still searching for that style stock though... did you buy yours or did it come with it?

It started life as a post ban Maadi ARM, and as such had a dumbhole stock. After the expiration of the ban, I added the Romanian folder. They should be readily available from the usual sources.

Everyone keeps telling me that the reciever mounts are crap, but mine is rock solid. But it's a pain to have to reconfirm zero every time I clean it (not often). However, I'll live with it, as I like the placement of the optic closer to the eye.

Yeah. Mine came with rails on the foregrip so I'll probably just do what sharkhunter did with his first one. Get a red dot sight or something

I built this one from a Romanian parts kit....it's my 'sorta' dragonuv:D. It shoots pretty accurate with the rusky optics!
I put a receiver mount on it (rusky) and I guess it's the way you put things together...because the scope comes on and off like a champ and I have never had to re zero it after cleaning. Normally, I keep the scope off it and in the rusky pouch. Got the wood off a friend for 6 bucks...original Romanian!

I did my last AK with a can of spray on bedliner from Walmart. Just remove the wood and spray it on. Let dry and reinstall. You get texture and a super hard finish that looks like you spent a bunch of money on a replacement stock.
I have also done entire AK's with the bedliner. Goodbye rust. Will post pictures soon.

That's all well and good for the safe-queen, internet-picture-posting, crowd, but those of us that shoot, train, and compete with the AK know better.

In running dynamic shooting events for the last 3+ years, I have yet to see anyone show up and be remotely competitive with a "KISS" AK. It just doesn't happen.

KISS is all well and good until you start shooting, moving, trying to make hits in reduced light, trying to make hits past 100 yards, etc.

Would I put a VFG, AR-style stock, etc. on an AK? No, but if they help the shooter get better hits faster, and don't impede the basic operation of the gun (VFGs get in the way of mag changes, AR stocks seem to like to come loose, etc.) then I say go for it.

RockyMtnTactical
October 23, 2008, 02:14 PM
There's nothing wrong with a tricked out rifle, but KISS rifles work just fine in my experience. I've noticed a trend in many of my carbine classes. The guys with the most expensive tricked out rifle have no clue what they are doing on the range. This isn't always the case... but it's not unusual at all.

I can appreciate the KISS rifles, the tricked out rifles, and everything in between. In the end, the person behind the rifle will determine how effective the weapon is though, not the accessories...

The Chinese Poly-tech AK, a real military spec. rifle, the LOP is obviously for someone of smaller stature. Standard stamped versions came two ways, either with a straight stock or folding copy of the German MP40 design. Both utilize a folding spike bayonet and threaded muzzle.

Anyone have the Romanian style pistol grip on the foregrip on their AK?? Looking at that LaRue pic I wonder if the front pistol grip wouldn't possibly get in the way of the magazine during insertion/removal?? I was thinking of getting that style of foregrip, but may have to rethink that unless it's a nonissue.

Quick thought: I've noticed that some of you have three or more AK's. Thing is, the price is going up because there is becoming a SHORTAGE of AKs ("shortage" of AKs almost sounds ridiculous seeing as there are so many millions of them worldwide).

Maybe, just maybe, they wouldn't be so hard to find if, well, we each limited ourselves to two? Think about it, you could use all the money you saved to buy a M1A or hell, accurize a Mini-14 (for 1" groups! :what: )!

Please? For the rest of us? :o

(quote) "Question, maybe I'm just ignorant, but where can I get those magazine covers that look like wood? or is it the actual magazine "

I heard mention of a guy over at ARFCOM that was selling bakelite mags, all customers happy, but I couldn't join ARFCOM, so I asked here if any members could hunt him down for me, and one did. I ordered a single x39 bakelite, in great shape, for about $55 delivered, IIRC. And believe it or not, that ain't a bad deal. At the time he had some with or without the Tula arsenal mark. I sent a postal money order, and the mag was here pronto, came priority US postal, very well packed, and as described. It's been many months, so I can't recall his name, but his Email address is treadhead2@hotmail.com.
I know of no other place to get a x39 bakelite, and this guy is straight-up, so if you want one, I'd jump.
And yeah, after adding teak foregrips and a bakelite pistol grip, the bakelite mag does make my Yugo underfolder look maximum cool !!:D
P.S. great "Firefly" quote,DB !!!!
