have seen pics. of this & looked on their website, but no real info. MSRP around $550.00 puts it up close to others with more proven worth (mini-14's) What type of mags does it use? Website says 20 & 30 rounders available. Is the 1 in 9 twist the current standard for .223 surplus ammo? thanks.

The Kel-Tec SU-16 accepts standard AR15/M16 magazines.
The 1/9 twist is suitable for bullets up to ~62 grains, so it will handle both M-193 equivalent (55 grain) and M-855 (AKA SS109, 62 grain).

I'm half tempted to buy one for the cute factor, but if I do I'm going to make my own fore end for it, maybe mount a real bipod, maybe not. Thinking I'd machine a real front sight post for it too.
I handled one, seems really cute, the bipod is clumsy and useless because it doesn't lock when extended, in my view I should be able to lean into a bipod when shooting. Looks fragile too. Factory mags store in the stock, accepts M-16 mags.

I'd be interested in knowing it's length once folded. I think this might be a great inside a backpack gun for...whatever. No carrying around a disassembled AR...unfold, load, and go.

With the bipod out I think it kinda looks like a "BAR".

if you don't mind me asking, what'd ya end up giving for it? K-T site sez msrp $550 (if I remember) Hows the finish, do the mags drop freely, how would you compare it to a Mini-14? What other weapon does it remind you of most? whew, hope you don't get too serious about a review, just never handled one of thoses yet and being here in kalifornia, maybe never will. thanks for the link to ktog.org; poked around but couldn't get the BB up, and didn't find anything on the gun.

Hank,
I haven't laid eyes on one yet but a post from a Kel-Tec employee on 8/23 said "There are exactly 40 of them in the world right now" with more coming out each week. A few posters over at KTOG.ORG said they got theirs for right at $500. Once they ramp up production if they can get it down closer to sub-$400 I'll bet they sell the heck out of them.

And one more tidbit for those wondering why they haven't started arriving. According to a posting from a Kel-Tec employee over on KTOG.ORG they had to make a minor change to the bipod to make the BATFE happy so they had to stop production for a bit.
The changes to the SU-16 Bi-pod are minor.
In order to make the serial number "conspicuous" we have had to create a small window on the right half of the bi-pod.
You can see the small window near the bottom of the bipod in the SU-16 picture on the Kel-Tec website http://www.kel-tec.com/su-16_rifle.htm
Now the Serial number can be seen through the little window when the bi-pod is closed.
