M1903 Air Service

This is the Springfeld M1903 that was issued to Pilots during WW1. The magazine is permanent and holds 25 rounds. The example below was found on gunbroker.com.

Buyer beware!

99.9% percent of those that survived are in museums.

The rest are fakes.

There have been fake magazines made using BAR magazines, but no one who ever saw one of the original mags would be fooled.

Some people call those magazines detachable, but they are not truly detachable in the same way an M14 magazine is, since there are no lips and the magazine cannot be loaded off the gun and inserted loaded. There is a sheet metal clip that holds the spring and follower in, but it has to be removed before inserting the magazine. The intent was to load the magazine from clips, in the normal manner.
