Anyone know anything about lever action shotguns? It'll mainly just be a nice addition to the collection, but it would be nice to shoot once in a while. It looks like fun. Is the Norinco the only one out there and is it any good? Not much info on these available. Thanks everyone!

I have a win 9410... its a fun gun... just wish I had picked up several dozen of them. They wer 500 when I bought it. now they are just under a grand.

I have a 1901 Winchester 10 gauge, which is the shotgun that the Terminator took from that biker bar bartender in Terminator II, except mine has a full stock and 30" barrel. The thing is, I never fired it yet, because it uses 2 1/2" shells which I would have to custom load because they don't sell them unless someone like Old Western Scrounger has them available.

Anyway, IAC makes a replica of the Winchester 1887 in 12 gauge 2 3/4". http://www.iacshotguns.com/87w.html
The model 1887 was made originally for blackpowder shells, although the IAC is updated, and the model 1901 was for the new at the time smokeless powder, but only available in the 10 gauge. The Winchester 9410 sounds like a fun little gauge too though.

No TAB, it probably is 2 5/8", I just remember being told it was a length that seemed a bit odd to me, not being one of the lengths that are common today. Thanks.

I have one of the Norincos, gun is made fairly well, wood is so-so. It looks nice, but the forearm panels (1@ side) don't look particularly sturdy after having it for a while.

It shoots to POA and looks nice on the wall, and well, I didn't have a big bore lever when I got it.

It's a novelty item - the 'something I don't have' or cowboy crowd pretty much exclusively. It wouldn't be particularly good for much of anything else, comes with a short barrel, and the manual of arms is so unlike modern guns that it's a curiosity.

If I had the money, I'd probably get two of the replicas. I'd keep one as-is for a truck gun and modify the other one like Arnold's.

It's extremely primitive, loading through the top with the breech block retracted/lever open. There's no topping off the weapon like a more modern design, and they're pricey in a market that expects imported 'toy' (which is what they are, adult toys) shotguns to be a lot cheaper.

For the price you can buy nice non-Express 870s and then some.

Couple with the 'lever action shotgun' headscratching from shoppers, and they're a niche product at best.

+1 on the Winchester 9410. I bought mine for $519, did a lot of squirrel hunting with it and it is always 100% fun!

Norinco made shotguns sell under numerous brand names like Interstate Arms (IAC) and Hawk.

Very likely due to the time required for a second shot and the interruption of the swing caused by working the lever. Doubles are fastest and slide and autoloading shotguns next. I'd like to see someone try doubles at skeet with a lever action shotgun.

I don't have first hand experience with actually bringing one to the shoulder and actually swinging one, but I would speculate that the balance is less than ideal... there's a lot of mechanism pretty far aft.

Not cheap, but you could buy a few boxes and then save the hulls for reloading.

Edited to add: Oops - sorry. These are 12 gauge shells and when I went back and read the post I saw you were looking for 2 1/2" shells for a 10 gauge. Don't know where you'd find them.

I have one. I love it just because its a cool fun gun. Mine is a Norinco copy 12 gauge. I have only shot it a few times. It is a pain to work,you have to work the lever really hard and fast else it jams.

I bought it for cowboy action if i ever should get into it. I am more into looking cool than speed. Doubles or the 97 pump would be faster for sure.

I shot mine recently (30 rounds?) and the bead fell out. 20 bux to get the bead replaced from my smith.

I just cycled through some old Lever action shotguns in a gunshop last week, Man, were they smooth. Old stuff is so smooth. I loved it. Watching that hammer cock is a bit of a novelty.:)

I'm pretty sure the 10ga. shells you are looking for are 2 7/8" length; like positive beyond a shadow of a doubt.
They are available. Not much more (or less) than "regular" 3 1/2" 10ga shells, about $1 each.

Hi Guys,
I just got myself one of the IAC/NORC 87W does anyone know where i can download a page that shows you how to disassemble the shotgun.
I was going to strip completely and clean the inside before i shoot the living day light out of it to smooth out the action..

or is it real simple and easy...... i have a rossi 1892 so if its similar i guess i can figure it out. just dont have to loose any springs or bits if i can help it.
