I am looking for a gunsmith who specializes in 1911's in oregon , in western oregon would be better but anywhere within 4 hours drive of salem is fine . I guess I should say what exactly I want to have done . I would like to have the slide milled to put on a diffrent rear site , a new trigger and trigger job , and would like to know more about performance upgrades . this is not for a compition gun but just trying to get the most out of my firearm as i can . I have put about 1300 rounds through it and have decided on these changes so far . I wanted to do most of them myself but i know little about doing smithing work on a handgun . A gunsmith who could tell me more about the changes he did and how he did them would be a nice plus . I would like to know as much about my handgun as is possable by the time i am done with all the changes to it . If i am asking to much or if anyone needs more info to help me look in the right direction please let me know .

thank you for your time

While I've only had him work on any of my guns twice, I was very satisfied with the work I had done my Al's Guns in Forest Grove.

He did a great job on my Mod 70 Winchester 30-06 and on a Springer 1911 loaded that had a horrible trigger before he worked on it.

I like

Blacktail Pistolsmithing
305 Spruce St.
Myrtle Point OR 97458
541-572-4867

So far as I know, he works on 1911s exclusively.

Rob Shepherd http://www.majornyneguns.com/

I have not had him do any work, lots of folks at the Albany rifle and Pistol Club swear by him.

For some reason, when I posted there was no indication that my post was received. My message box went blank and there was no posting. I normally do not multipost. TTF

Ed Boening of Boening Custom Guns in Medford (just about at the 4 hour limit) does awesome work on 1911's, as well as builds a line of his own that are very nice.

Highly recommended.

+1 on Rob Shepherd at M9 Guns in Salem. He's a top-notch 'smith and a great guy besides. His prices also are more than reasonable.

I don't know how close they are (or even where Salem is), but I've heard a lot of good things about Springer Precision.

Springer Precision is in Bend. I'm thinking of sending them a gun to Ionbond, they seem to be a new provider. I will only post this four more times if requested.

I sent a link to this thread and a note to Rob about all of this last night, and he said that he'd be glad to help in any way that he can. He's a class act and a fine gunsmith. His custom-built guns are something to see.

For those who might be interested, here's a link to his website:
