I have found a Beretta Teknys being sold used for $850. It has a 30" barrel and. I am looking for a gun strictly to use for shooting clay targets, and not to hunt with. I have shotguns with 26" and 28" barrels for hunting, but would like something a little nicer and with a longer barrel for clay targets.

How is the Teknys, and is the price good?

They are good guns. There are several versions of the Beretta 391, of which, the Teknys is one. The differences are in the cosmetics and trim, not in the main functioning or operational parts.

So, is $850 a good price? Umm, I'm thinking it may be just a little on the high side, but that's just my opinion.

I love my 391, w 30" bbl. on trap, skeet and sporting.

Even shot a couple of grouse with it.

I've only shot the Urikas, so I should keep quiet, but you're not getting many replies.

Many folks think the Teknys is not worth the extra money. It has fancy appointments, some have adjustable combs, and some have interchangeable ribs. Some don't like the comb hardware, and say the ribs are not the best. But $850 seems like a very good price for a used Teknys, based on what I've seen. I've been looking for a Urika Sport, and my searches always turn up a bunch of Teknys at higher prices.

There is a gold sporting on gunbroker bid at $1004 with no reserve. The price of new Teknys seems to be running 1450-1550.

I own a Beretta 391 Sporting and consider the Teknys a spiffy version of the best gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun in the world today.

The Teknys doesn't excite me as much because of the plastic inserts in the stock. They can fall out. I also don't like the gel-pad wire hook replaceable recoil pads or the glow stick front bead most often found on the Teknys. These are very minor quibbles and have nothing to do with the quality or operation of the gun.

Good shotguns, the whole 391 series.

I occasionally shoot an AL 391 Urika Parallel Trap. It is a smooth operating gun. I believe it is a much better than average semi-auto available on today's market.

Assuming very good condition, $850 is an excellent price.

Seems like a good price......
Do you have any way to guess (within reason) the round count?
I've had a VERY small problem with a 391 magazine plug, but that is inconsequential for a range shotgun.
Price appears a little steep for extra chrome and optional CD player.
391 series are real good for any claybirds, 30" barrel might be longer than you want - after you use it.

The 391 Urika is basically the same gun and a much better deal. You can find them on gunbroker for as low as $650 NIB.
