I seen these lights around...any reason to carry a dedicated LED light that is near their tactical lights in bulk? Seems like you're carrying a whole lot of light for a little output, or you can have an A2...but why get a SureFire M3 and convert it to an LED? For the gadget factor, or is there tactical reasoning that I am missing?

I'm not really understanding your question but if you are talking about the LED conversions that SF makes for their 6 and 9 volt lights then the only reason is to have a long running flashlight with a more diffuse light a longer life "bulb" and less output and "throw" than the standard bulb.

I like my A2 and my wifes L1 but they serve different purposes.

If you haven't seen an L4 yet, take a look at them. It is by far my favorite SF! The L4 generates 65 Lumens for over an hour and then drops down a little and runs for another hour and so on. Total runtime is 15 hours! It also comes with the Z48 tailcap. I can carry any SF I want and I choose the L4. I have an open box L4 that I will give you a good price on if interested....
