im in the market for a scope and as usual im trying to get the most bang for my hard earned bucks. i can get a 4.5-14X42mm burris fullfield II for $265, a nikon buckmasters 4.5-14X40mm for $245, a buckmasters 6-18X40mm for $280 or the wildcard of the bunch a pentax 4.5-14X42mm for $280. its gonna be topping off my remmy 700 SPS tactical in .308

also has anyone heard of any counterfeited burris or nikons like how leupold has been?

I think the Burris and the Pentax are the same scope.

well im having a pretty tough decision, ive been surfing around all morning(about 6 hours now) and am still torn between these choices. whatever decision i make im gonna be saving another 30% off these prices so the 6-18 buckmaster will run me around $190 and the burris will be $175 or so.

To my eyes the Burris FFII is slightly better glass than the Buckmaster, and I do have both in 3-9 x 40. I think the Buckmaster has slightly less light transmission, which probably doesn't matter much, and the Burris has slightly better coatings.

Just my opnion.

I generally find it annoying when someone recommends something entirely different than what's being asked about...but...I'm gonna throw this option into the mix.:D

Though standard Bushnell is widely considered "so-so", their Elite series is very well thought of,( I love both of mine) as it's actually the very highly rated Bausch & Lomb stuff that Bushnell bought out a few years ago. Also, their lifetime warranty is fantastic.(voice of experience)
These guys also have the 5-15x for another $29,both prices beating opticsplanet and SWFA, I believe. Plus, Kevin and Craig are just cool dudes !!
I'd jump on one of these before a bottom-of-the-line Phillipine-built Nikon or Burris.

i was eyeballing a couple of bushnells as well, a 3200 5-15x50 for $180 and the fixed 10X 3200 for $176. i was considering a 10X as most of my shooting will be at 100 yards with an occasional reach out to 300 yards max.

The Elite 5-15x50 for $180 is a killer deal! In fact, I want to know where that one is !!! That 10x has no parallax adjustment,so 300 yard shots might be problematic.

97,
Check Natchez if you're interested in the Burris, they run package deals on the 4.5X14X42 coupled with the Burris 12X24X50 spotting scope for $343.95.

The 4.5x14 is a quality scope for the price fully multi coated, and clear to the edges. The ballistic plex reticle is a design that eclipses the mill. dot in usfullness it is a lot easier to calibrate bullet drop and can be dialed in for any ammo ,caliber combo..

I am happy with my 3-9 Burris FF2 on a prairie dog/coyote rifle. It came in a package deal with some binoculars, which I can no longer seem to find.

That said, for a little bit more I'd consider the IOR line.

There was some talk a while ago about the Bushnell Elite series being problematic to mount. Don't recall the gist - maybe unorthodox rings or something. Anyone know if that's fact or urban lore ?

I own three of the Elite series. Two are on BARs, & one's perched atop my ancient M/70. All are mounted with Leupold QR bases/rings.....no problem whatever....eye relief is as good as a Nikon first model I have on another BAR.........

While I like the Elites, I'm also drawn to the Burris product.......how's it compare relative to brightness, etc.

& On the Nikon issue, that old original product one I have is head and shoulders brighter and more crisp an optic than any of the new stuff I've looked thru.........fully equal to a Zeiss my hunting partner has.

He appears to be in the <$300 range (4-12 variable or so).
4-14 IOR Scope is what ~$700.

if the burris has a ballisticplex reticle, I would be all over that, otherwise, the pentax is the best scope here...

i settled on a bushnell 3200 10X last night, it ran me $175 with the 30% off im gonna be into it for $120. i figured the 10X will be fine with 99% of my shooting paper off the bench at 100 yards, the target knobs and pricepoint were the other deciding factors. it was a long day on the computer yesterday, i started looking at 6 in the morning and finally made my decision at 10:00 at night.
