What is handboning?

I've noticed that holsters that have been "handboned" seem to always be more expensive. Exactly what is that process?? Does it affect function or is it just an appearance thing?

A process of hand forming a wet leather holster to the exact contours of the gun. It requires a certain 'touch' to know exactly when the leather will form and stay formed to the required shape--to much working of leather and the surface of the leather will burnish and discolor or not accept the final color (DYE) as readily.

with a pistol replica in a new holster, the maker will take some object, such as deer antler ect. and use it to rob the holster to the contours of the pistol. jwr
