For those of you thinking of getting a "new" Springfield M-1, let me tell you about the CMP Correct grades. These run about the same money as a the "new" Springers which by the way is not the same Springfield Garand worked for.

I am a returning CMP customer. I sent in my order about 3 weeks ago and the rifle arrived while I was hunting for a week. Office staff signed for the rifle for me and left me a msg. on the old cell phone.

I got home last night and one of my co-workers brought the Fed-X box to my house unopened.

I opened the box and there sits a H&R correct grade which looked like a new rifle. There is very little hanger rash on the stock. The rifle's bolt face has no indication of being fired, being clean and smooth. The rifle was manf. in 1955 and in my opinon, is just like it would have been in 1955.

The blue and park is 100%. The rifle has a blued barrel as it is a "LMR" which I was hoping for. The LMR is one of the better shooting GI barrels.

The trigger has some creep but I know how to take care of that.

Right now the barrel is soaking with some Shooter's Choice and after clean up and greasing I'm going to see how it prints this afternoon.

Lets say I'm very impressed so far. I ordered the H&R because I have Springfield very well covered on my way to having at least one of each manf. of the M-1's.

Btt

This tread was for those thinking about a new Springer M-1. Didn't get a chance to shoot the H&R today, still cleaning, but mostly goofing off.

I'm not sure what that means since Springfield-Armory stopped selling Garands over a year ago.

As for CMP, it's hard to go wrong that's for sure.

Nothing wrong with a correct grade, but I can get one of the 'new' Springfields and not feel guilty about parts swapping. May be just me, but it feels kinda pointless to shell out for a rifle with matching parts if part of the goal is to switch those out.

I'm not switching any parts out.....but I am going to see how it shoots.

There was a tread not so long ago on this or another board about the new Springers. I was not aware they stopped making them but I'm sure there are still a few in the system.

Also I am very happy with the correct grades condition.
