Which 204?

After reading about 204's, I see that some prefer 32 grain bullets and some prefer 40. A CZ I used to have prefered 32's. I sold it and regretted doing it. Now I am back in the mood for another 204.

My question is - For those of you that have 204's, What make and model do you have and what grain of factory ammo does it prefer? Is there a model that likes ammo in different grains or are most dependent on one particular grain?

I have looked at the CZ's again and a prohunter with a 204 barrel has even crossed my mind.

Options and opinions............

Do ARs count? if so, DPMS has a very good .204 upper, it likes pretty much all weights in my experiance. if you really want a good rifle, Les Baer custom makes a AR (upper or complete rifle) that can, on good days, shoot one hole groups at 200yd.

Right now I am not looking in the direction of an AR, but thanks for the info.

I have a rem. 700vs because it was the only one I could find when they first came out. It prefers 32 gr., but by load experimenting i was able to get it to shoot 40gr. hornadys well. That was before sierra came out with their 39 gr. bullet. I haven't tried the sierra's yet but have heard that they are excellent. My rifle still shoots the 32's better at 100yds., but the 40's beat it hands down at 300yds. and beyond. I now prefer the .204 to the .22-250, or .223ai for prairie dogs.

Mine is a T/C Encore w/ a Virgin Valley Barrel. Topped with a 4-16 Buckmaster Scope. Mine perfers Hornady V-Max 32 grain the best.

Also, what size of groups do you get with your rifle and ammo?

One of my sons has a Remington 700 in .204 that is absolutely insanely accurate.

Hi Sauce...

He has the VLS. He's already bored with 5-shot one-hole groups.

you might look at your cz, and getting it tweaked by calhoun rifles, also if just leaving it stock, I think a Savage could do some nice things.
