I have a chance to pick up a great looking Marlin MR-7 in 30.06 for $500.

Looks 98%, missing box, paperwork and such. Great looking wood/metal, seems to have been shot very little.

I'm not familiar with them though. Does anyone have one? Background info on them? General advice?

Thanks,

Agreed. No more than $300 unless you REALLY LOVE the gun. But if you want a gun in the $300 price range, go for a Savage or a Weatherby Vanguard (Howa 1500) instead. They are much more respactable uses of the money. IIRC, the Marlin was a Flop much like every other bolt action centerfire Marlin produced. Marlin no longer makes the gun either. That in and ov itself should tell you somehing.
