I need the opinions of experienced Marlin 39A folks.

What do you consider to be the best years that the Marlin 39A, .22 caliber rifle was made.

Probably the 1930's models.

Of the post-war, the 1950's to mid-60's versions.

I'd trade my shiney 1977 model for Dad's weathered 1952 any day of the week. That one is smooth as buttered glass.

There was more hand fitting and finishing in the 40's and 50's.

I like my 1970 Centennial edition with 18" octagon barrel, brass curved butt plate and fore end cap. Also pretty slick and smooth.

I prefer the later 39 stock configurations: trimmer and nicely checkered.

My model is quite recent :2007.

It is fine and it is my FAVORITE .22 rifle. It beats my CZ 452, my Savage 30G, my Henry, my Erma (lever action, 1976)and also my Thompson center ...
