Just saw a very beautiful shotgun at the gun store - O/U, sleek, deep bluing, took it for a high dollar shotgun from a distance. Got closer and it's a Savage 512 in 28 ga. As I say, very slender, elegant, and beautiful, AND only five bills to buy! These any good? Must say that I'm tempted.

OK, it's a "Stephens" 512 Gold Wing, not "Savage"

Where is this gun made?

Like most of the guns in this price range, it's made in Turkey.

OK, thanks. I like how they're all specifically scaled down as small as they can go. I'm seriously thinking about getting the 28 ga. one after I do some research.

OK, I got this gun in 28 ga...now where in THE heck do I get shells for it? :scrutiny: :) Something tells me I may have to start reloading shotshells to shoot this thing economically.

P.S. It's finish is not top-notch of course (it's a $500 gun), but it's got some nice engraving, and feels like it will slick up nicely with use - it's not too bad right now. Should I, or should I not, use Flitz and open and close it a few hundred times?

PPS. My buddy has a theory on Turkish shotguns. Many years ago, the average shooter could not afford a fine English shotgun, so some Italian firms started making cheaper copies of the English guns. They were viewed by the snobbery as being inferior knockoffs. Fast forward years later and people now brag about owning their Berettas, Benellis, and Franchis. So now Turkish firms start making copies of the Italian guns at a lower price point.... 30 years from now, it may be a bragging point to own a Turkish shotgun. Just passing along a theory. :)

Pretnear all stores that stock ammo has it or can get it for you. It is rather expensive running about a third to a half more than 20 gauge. The demand for 28 gauge is not very high but is becoming more popular, I think. Until the ammo companies can produce it in bulk, it will be more expensive that 12 and 20 gauge.

Anyone else have questions or input? I can't wait to shoot this thing. :)
